Owner Ken Yamamoto is one of the only chefs in Washington State certified to handle fugu—the blowfish with the poisonous liver. If you like taking your life in your hands, this is the place to do it, although there are lots and lots of other things on the menu, including very fine sushi.

Fugu and Sumo!!!

I used to work within a couple of blocks of Shiki, and would go there at least once a week for their amazing bento (best I've had in Seattle)...but during the Grand Sumo Tournaments (they happen about every two months) I would go just about every day and hang out with Ken and root for our favorites!

Aside from producing some of the best, most authentic sushi (the quality of the rice is just as important as the fish) and hot food in Seattle, Ken and his wife are very friendly and eager to please, and after a few visits they were already making me feel like family. There are certain items which are not on the menu, but if you request them a day or so before going, they will make you anything from Fugu (when in season) to shabu shabu.

I would like to point out that Shiki is one of 17 or so restaurants in the COUNTRY licensed to serve Fugu, much less the state. At least that was as of 2003.

Authentic and a Great Value

This restaurant is more like a sushi restaurant in Japan than any other restaurant in Seattle. (I lived in Japan for years.) Low key and down home. No fancy cocktails, no oversize pieces of fish on tiny Atkins rice balls, no rolls that look like catepillars. But a very good and very friendly chef/proprietor who will take good care of you if you leave it up to him. The best place to eat in dreadful Lower Queen Anne.

you serious???

Ive ate here, and it should stay a secret... Fresh? Your joking right... I love sushi, and I know fresh... And if someone believes blowfish liver then you just might love tall tale fiction stories too... You want good sushi try Sami sushi next to palasades... Both fine Resturant ... Don't make it you own little secret just because you live next door or a few blocks away ...
