Ratatouille

Went to Crave last night -- sitting facing the main window waiting (and waiting and waiting) for dinner to arrive, and across the metal cross bars scampers a very large rat. I said, "is that inside???" and when it disappeared under the buffet, near the bread, I realized it was. Lovely. Do you think the nice folks at Crave would offer to comp our bill after seeing the furry creature disappear into their kitchen? No. They did offer us a free dessert to split amongst the three of us. Real classy. Hence the review. I would have kept the incident to myself otherwise. Maybe the rat was helping out the chef.

Artsy is Not Quality

I keep wondering how Crave stays in business – its front window and lofty menu seem to be straight out of the breed of restaurant catering directly to the indie kids (and middle-aged hipsters) who want to go out to a trendy little bistro without breaking out the mopeds and finding parking down in the Pike Street Market. Dinner and expensive wine, in other words, for the lazy. The pasta dishes have been average – overly spiced with salt dominating the cheese sauces, the wine little more than the standard house wines served at the Lower Level below with $5 surcharges to it. And while the kitchen is open and you can watch exactly what they’re doing to prepare your food, the allure of being able to peer into the kitchen isn’t something I truly want to see – the slide of premade sauces onto plates is something I’d expect to see at a buffet, not a bistro. And let's be frank - if you truly don't care about serving people, don't work in a restaraunt where they can see your every move. Truthfully, if you want good pasta and wine, head to Serafina’s on Eastlake, or a place that doesn’t preen at its own artsiness while it serves you.

great for any meal or snack

Robin, the owner and master mind of Crave, has created a wonderful cafe to hang out with friends or family while enjoying a delicious, well thought out meal. If you like lattes, they make their own caramel - Delicious! During brunch, the place is hopping with happy people in the sunlit dining area. During dinner, enjoy a glass of wine while people watching through the large picture windows. You can listen to the cooks talk about making your food, or be amazed by the dishwasher's balancing act as he/she brings items back and forth from behind the kitchen - a space that couldn't possibly be big enough for all that! Sick of the same old menu? Crave's menu has creative items, and if nothing strikes your fancy, just talk to the staff and they will make you happy.

Used to be better, now it's just ok

When they changed cooks for weekend brunch last winter it was bloody obvious, and it hasn't been the same since. Runny hollandaise on what used to be a superb mimosa benedict, and the french toast is too gooey nowadays. Other dishes, like the biscuits and gravy, are still good. On Easter morning they had a rabbit omelette special as they've ever been.

Interesting Food, Slow Service

The apple and bleu cheese omelette was very good; actually all the food was good. I had trouble getting refills of water and such, the staff had trouble getting around to peolpe, which makes no sense since the dining area is the size of my living room. Overall, interesting food but a pain in the ass if you like your service staff to be attentive.

Not Even If They Were The Best Nachos On The Planet

The foodies at this overthought turd probably have some really clever spin on Nachos but I wouldn't know because I like my music pretentious not my dining experience. I'll pass. I gave it 4 stars becuase you'll probably love this place or at least you'll pretend you love it if one of your friends accuses you of not knowing what's up.

The wait...oh god, the wait!

Seriously, I would go here every weekend, but the wait has put me off from it. I will never go with more than 2 people ever again. It's just too painful. But the food, everything's done right. The biscuits and gravy have me coming back every time.
