Restaurant Details

  • For all of Seattle's hippie-dippiness, it's a real project to find a good tofu scramble in town. Luckily, there's the Dish, home of the Slacker Special—a rich, inventive scramble of cheese, enchilada sauce, more cheese, onions, tortilla chips, and eggs or tofu, topped by a dollop of sour cream and salsa and offered with a side of potatoes and toast.
  • Features: Breakfast/Brunch and Cheap Eats
  • Cuisine: Hippie-Dippie and Vegetarian

Best. Breakfast. Ever. Yes, it is that good. Maybe I was exceedingly hungry (the wait is too damn long!) but the amazing Slacker Especiale won me over. Seriously tasty! A homeless guy asked me for my leftovers on the way home, and though I was happy to give them (he definitely needed them more than me), I was sad to think of the tasty goodness I wouldn't be able to re-create in my own microwave.

Get a bigger spot!

I've really liked the slacker especial here for breakfast, and just about all of the lunch items I've tried have been light but filling. But especially on weekends -- when the waiting patrons spill out onto smelly Leary Way for hours at a time -- this place is CRAMPED. Dish is set inside a tiny living room/den of an early 20th-century house, and they really cram you in. If you have to sit near someone of size, BEWARE -- you will be sharing bodily secrets with that person, and perhaps some of his/her meal. I really find it hard to believe that this place is fire-code legit, but I guess that's not my territory.

Amazing

This place frickin amazes me every time I come here(once or twice a month). The food is awesome, the service is awesome, the atmosphere is awesome, and yet this tiny place absolutely rocks the turnover without rudeness or feeling rushed in any way. How the hell do you that? Only problem is not being able to decide between breakfast and lunch (#1 burger dip in Seattle (by far) contends for my affection, even in the morning). This place is a gem and I can't imagine my life without it. Any places for rent nearby?

dualism

Weekdays, it's just amazing. Veggie Benedict with basil ftw. Weekends, forget it, it ain't happening... unless you enjoy huffing exhaust on the side of the raid for 45 minutes.

Breakfast for all

They know breakfast in all its guises, including the most straightforward eggs and bacon (thankfully). So you can go there with those people who you like but don't normally want to eat with because their tastes run to tofu... and you can all be happy. It's a diner and has that appropriate breakfast feel with the down to earth people to boot. The wait is the only thing that is unappealing and even that is mitigated by the fact they give you coffee while you watch the traffic on Leary.
