Umi Sake House (Belltown)

2230 First Ave
Seattle, Washington 98121
(206) 374-8717
Website

Umi Sake House is stylish—a combination of the uber-modern sterility of the Bada Lounge, which used to occupy the space, and the wood of a Japanese teahouse. Dozens of different kinds of sake are served, but with no details about provenance or nuance, no clues about where to start or how to proceed, and the busy servers don't offer much help. The vast pan-Asian menu offers a long list of specialty sushi rolls that rely heavily on frying, mayonnaise/aioli/cream cheese, and teriyaki sauce (often in lethal-sounding combination). Fried, creamy, and sweet prevail among izakaya small plates as well. Some like it, some don't.
Hours: Daily 4 pm-2 am.

Horrible Service!!

The sushi was alright, nothing to get excited about. Our server acted as if she made too much money to be bothered with offering a shred of customer service. And the bartenders are dicks! The bathroom was a complete shit storm, it looked as though they had not cleaned in a week. Never going back.

My Favorite Happy Hour

Umi-licious, I want a taste of what they got. Umi-licious, they have some rolls that really rock. Umi-licious, they keep the toilet seats hot. Umi-licious , ta ta ta ta tastey tastey.

Did I hear Fergie this morning? Anyway, Umi is delicious and their happy hour is one of the best in town. Yummy $4 and $5 rolls, the best calamari ever, crispy prawns, reasonable sashimi and other really freaking amazing stuff. I've only ever experienced attentive and helpful servers.

I even came to Umi for a little birthday happy hour celebration with a few friends last year and they brought me a piece of beautiful complementary cheesecake! The decor is sleek modern Asian and the indoor patio simulates an outdoor feel with the large skylight. The atmosphere is cool and laid back. Smooth jazz or some down tempo music hums in the background, thankfully not Fergie!

If I still ate fish...

..I'd definitely go back. Decent happy hour treats and beer, staff are very attentive and friendly. I actually like the layout of the place too. Solid 3.5

Are you kidding?

Happy hour from 4pm to 8pm! I don't usually go to Belltown, but I'll do it for cheap sushi and sake. And the toilet seats are heated. What's not to love?

Great food -- so-so ambiance

I really enjoyed the adventurous menu and well prepared sushi. The rolls were very generous and had fun flavor combinations. The teriyaki squid was excellent. I was not so excited about the coffee-table-as-dining-table atmosphere.
