made with love

The food at Kuzue is made with love. I like it way better than Musashi's down the street. Miso soup is simple, and yet amazing. Sushi hits the spot. Not too many frills, but comforting, wholesome food and service.

On Being White and Happy Hour

Three stars for being good sushi (just not blow your mind! sushi) and an extra star for the happy hour prices. Dollar Rolls... Hell Yes! Don't order the Edamame unless you've got a friend with you.
Also, this white vs asian nonsense bothers me. I'm anglo as it gets. Call me Whitey McWhiterson, and I've never seen preferential treatment, what likely happened was you caught the server on an off day. And also remember that food service workers serve people all f'n day, so a smile from a customer usually gives them that buoyancy they need to get through the day, and might expedite your order, just maybe.

Black cod bento!

My boyfriend and I come here a few times a month, and it is normally very good. My favorite menu item is the black cod bento, which I order too often. The happy hour is a good deal, but the regular menu items are better. I have never had an experience like "suckmysushi" below, so don't let one opinion scare you away.

Our default neighborhood restaurant

The September 2, 2007, reviewer had a very unusual experience. We're white, middle-aged, non-hip, and we've had excellent food and service each time we've dined there -- probably 12-15 times. Whenever we just want some really good, reliable food, we come here. Sometimes we have to wait a bit, but we've always been served courteously and promptly. We like sushi and have dined at other Japanese restaurants but the combination of sushi selections and other Japanese "comfort food" as well as lovely presentation keeps us coming back.

Good sushi?

If you're white and you want to eat some sushi, they will not serve you. After a 15 minute initial wait with absolutely no acknowledgment, the person waiting after us already had his food. (he was asian) They served us finally with great food. The bottom line is the food was great and the service was terrible.(if you're white)

excellent happy hour

Happy hour boasts very cheap drinks, interesting appetizers. We didn't try the sushi per se but other basics (salmon teriyaki, cali rolls) were quite nice.
