Restaurant Details

  • Pho Cyclo's pho costs more, but the broth is subtler and the atmosphere's a step up—not a giant step, unless you're talking about a super-divey pho place, but a step (check out the amazing murals at the Capitol Hill Cyclo). The cold bun noodle bowls with pork and/or shrimp and/or other savory goodies on top are great summertime food—between that and the pho (some say a cold-weather thing, but up to you), there's always a good lunch or supper to be found here.

Avoid the lunch noodles

I've eaten at the SoDo location a couple dozen times and the food is almost always fresh and tasty. Be warned the lunch special noodle dishes are extremely greasy and are covered with a most unappetizing sauce. All other dishes are great and the service is pretty quick even during the lunch rush.

Not Pho Me

I ate the chicken salad and ended up with FOOD POISONING. I have never been sicker, I won't go into details, it's lasted 4 days and I am still not all better. I've eaten at Pho Cyclo dozens of times, without problems. However, it is not worth the risk of eating at a place with poor food safety habits. There are PLENTY of other great Pho places in Seattle.

Pho real?

I know, it seems less than authentic at first, based on the extraordinary volume of Pho around Seattle... but central Braodway location and steel and glass exterior aside, Pho Cyclo is quality. Fairly priced (though a little higher than usual: see "Location" above), fresh ingredients and friendly staff. The only detractor is this: the interior makes an effort to be authentically Vietnamese, with bamboo plants and photos on the wall and native music. Which actually makes it feel less authentic. In Seattle, authentic Vietnamese restaraunt interior means a small former insurance office from the 60's, with 70's wood paneled walls, low asbestos filled ceilings, and a sketchy looking prison style kitchen. And you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way.

healthy? that's debatable.

although... you have to love a freshly made sandwich (to go) at only $2.50. those lights on the wall can entertain me for hours. i've had other things (not pho) and i found it kind of greasy... like cheap chinese food greasy. eh.

Mmm Squid

Its hard to find a place that serves good seafood pho, if the serve it at all. Theirs is just right, the squid is chewy, the broth just right. I've only been to the Broadway location, and only had the pho, but I've never complained.

Fast, cheap, healthy and delicious

If you're looking for a quick meal of really flavorful food that's fresh, relatively healthy, and cheap, this is the place. The ambience is nothing to write home about and you may have difficulty communicating with the servers if you ask for anything that doesn't have a number on the menu. But the food is great, fresh, flavorful, and a healthy alternative to other fast food on Broadway. My favorites: The #1 fresh spring roll (made with shrimp and pork, chicken, or tofu), and the #16 Bun Thit Nuong (charbroiled pork with rice noodle). Fantastic.

Worst Service, Ambiance, and Food

This place is awful. The service is terrifyingly bad (although, my friend, who works with developmentally disabled people, brought one of his clients in and they served him very quickly, so I guess having a retard is the key). The food made another friend of mine vomit once, and the place looks like it came from a strip mall in Kirkland. Really, just awful. You are better off going one block in either direction to Pho 900 or Than Brothers. The writer is a staff member of The Stranger

The pho might be good

but maybe stick with that. Last time I was in there I ordered some noodle dish and tofu rolls. The tofu rolls came, but my main dish never materialized. When I flagged someone down to find out what happened, they brought me more tofu rolls (which I refused as I had already eaten an order) and when the noodles did show up they were so INCREDIBLY greasy and oily I couldn't eat them. It was clear someone was trying to do a rush job on the noodles to get them out, but they were inedible. I should have taken the 2nd order of tofu rolls. Super luchtime disappointment.

Best Pho on Broadway

Ok, so the Pho Chay is really good but I'm not crazy about the beef soup they have there. Try the #6 for a good variety - but really the veggie pho is the best they've got. The veggie spring rolls are also incredible. Watch out for the absolutely horrible "Dance Hits of the 90s" they're always playing in there - but makes for great people watching while enjoying darn good pho. Bring your own water if you can - they are not always as attentive on providing / filling water glasses there.
