  • Black Bottle in Belltown looks great: high ceilings, clean lines, exposed brick, handsome lightbulbs hanging by long wires like inverted bright ideas over patrons' heads. If architecture firms have cafeterias, they probably look like this—and even though it's Belltown, some women wear glasses, and some guys have product-free hair. People are here to hang out rather than hit on each other relentlessly, and they're here to eat. The menu offers a couple dozen not-so-small, not-very-expensive, pretty-damn-good plates. Get the blasted broccoli—a heaped platter of florets roasted at high heat until singed crisp around the edges but still al dente, salted and peppered without timidity—it's better than broccoli has any right to be. Black Bottle also has good cocktails and a nice selection of "hard-working wines, priced to sell." If you're on the Eastside, there's Black Bottle Postern in Bellevue, too.

Accessible Belltown

Chic but not too chic, a great place to share plates with friends. The food is divine.

snobby place to go

the food is small quantities. it is tasty but not worth the price tag. the decor is non existent.

Tasty Tapas

Deep fried broccoli - WOW, I will never look at broccoli the same way again. Yummers! I agree that the place can be loud, though it's simply because the place encourages conversation and connection over good food and drinks. Great place for appetizers/tapas and drinks after work - though get there early as the place gets packed fast.

Good tapas

This place is nice and unassuming. Not to pricy, the food is not amazing, but real good. I go there quite often, i find myself craving the butterbean and portabello mushrooms. Not the best for a date, it's always real loud. But a great place for a group of friends.

shout to be unheard

be beautiful, baby. get yourself dressed up, whatever it takes, wrap athletic tape around your ass if necessary to keep them buns firm and lean. the patrons and staff are hip and beautiful and it's a pleasure to sit back and think about sinking your teeth into the flesh parade. the food is $10/plate almost across the board, for apps and for entrees. my date and I got a salad, an hors d'oevre plate, some veggies and a chicken dish, and it was a satisfying meal with rich texture. o shit we had some prawns in there somewhere too. the food was all fresh, wonderfully prepared, and creatively conceived. these people are apparently making their dime off the wine list, and the bottom end for a bottle is $35, and it goes up pretty quick from there. If that's your gig, you'll be in heaven. conversation was a casualty. the crowd conversation was raucous, and the bass-heavy dub music filled in any aural cracks. it was even hard to communicate with the servers, and at some point I plain gave up on hearing my date's answers to my questions. she probably hadn't heard my questions either. it would have been fun with a group of familiar friends, who enjoy being boisterous and can communicate through physical cueing. or if you're hoping to snort down a bottle if pinot noir and hit the sack with your date--also great. subtle conversation is probably best diverted elsewhere.

V. Good

I have heard that it gets noisy but I was there when it was still calm. The drinks were excellent. The bartender came over and told us about shochu (japanese clear spirit) which I had never heard of at the time. The food was good too. There was something a little dark and almost grimy about the place. The atmosphere just seemed a little off and so it hasn't been upper most on my list to get back there.

Great place to share

Delicious dishes proportioned to share with friends. The 7 Spice Shrimp (with fried heads), hanger steak with daikon & shiso and the braised artichoke heart with greens are all fabulous. Perfect place to catch up over a glass of wine and graze.
