Columbia City's Definitive Diner

There's a saying that if you are in a city for the first time and you are looking for food, just go to where there are a line of locals and you will be fine. Geraldine's fits this to a tee. The place is always packed and they are turning tables fast but consistently delivering great tasting above average diner food. And when you are done, go across the street to Bob's butcher and get some bacon to bring back home.

Hall and Oates is Awesome

Geraldine's counter is one of my favorite breakfast places. Their French toast is amazing! However, with that said sometimes the French toast portions can be a little skimpy for my large Sunday bunch appetite. For $10 I should get more than a couple little skimpy pieces. So if you're reading this Geraldine, more French toast!

I can't believe this place has gotten seven reviews and none of them have mentioned the bacon. The bacon a Geraldine's is a revelation - incredibly thick, crunchy and chewy! On a calmer note, Geraldine's is my favorite breakfast spot in Seattle. Their sweet corn and havarti scramble is delicious. Their biscuits are huge, moist and flaky. And they get one little thing right that most restaurants can't be bothered with: when they bring butter to your table, it is room-temperature and easy to spread.

A good standard

I go here for the chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries, their breakfast sandwich, and their coffee cake. Their hash browns are terrible and the drip coffee leaves a little to be desired. The staff is very friendly and makes up for the rest. If you're going on a weekend, get there before 10am or after 1pm or you'll be waiting a while.

Nice people, tasty sweet potato fries

Ok, yes - it's a tad pricey, yes the service is sometimes painfully slow when very busy, and yes, there may be 1 or 2 wait staff that are not great at their jobs. But the people are very nice (even the inept ones), they are nice to babies, the food is quite good (not bland, per an earlier post. What, are you a smoker?), and they have made a concerted effort for the veg-heads by adding a couple new entrees and the occasional veg special. But be sure to get confirmation that a dish is, in fact, vegetarian. Unassuming non-meat dishes may contain chicken broth, for example.

popular, but not my cup-o-tea

so .... not my favorite place in town but also not so bad. breakfast/brunch lines on weekends can be 30 min wait, so obviously striking a chord with some people. for me? it's a bit too much classic americana. which ... means ... bland. what more can you say than "homemade mac & cheese." if those three words (and an ampersand) are the type of thing that delights you on a menu. go here.

Good, but misnamed....

Since when and where has corned beef hash served with chunks of corned beef. I'd call it a very good corned beef scramble... BTW at last check they only use clarified butter, a blessing for those folks with a lactose intolerance.

Just because it's a diner doesn't mean it's good.

First of all, it's way overpriced. Second, why must I hear bad 80s pop elevator music just because I crave chicken-fried steak? Third, why must I hear bad 80s pop just because I crave chicken-fried steak? Etc etc. Plus, the service is obnoxious. When I'm competing with Hall and Oates piped in crap for my check, well, I'm not kind with the tip. And don'd go there for anything but eggs. Trust me.

Great Place

I have been to Geraldine's many times and always love it! Generally, the service is great and I love to food. I agree with the above review that their vegetarian options are limited, but as a veggie myself, I love what they have!

Try it, you, will like it

I like this place a lot, even though most of what I'm about to say seems negative: prices are high-ish for dinner, very few vegetarian options, and occasionally the service is poor. But, the food is generally quite tasty (breakfast especially) and nearly all of the people working there are friendly and good at their jobs. It's a pleasant atmosphere and kid-friendly.
