I work on broadway and am a regular at mirch masala. The lunch buffet is great ..it varies daily, although there are a few items thats are there every day(like their yummy butter chiken). Iam abig fan of the vegitarian goancurry and the chana masala,to staples of the buffet. The great foodcoupled with the warm service(friendly and timely) makesmirch worthy alunch spot

Nice

The meal was above average for an Indian resturant in the US. The surroundings were really good including the bathrooms which fail in most resturants for hygiene. The service seemed good until I got home and realised the order was wrong. Please employe people who speak and understand english well to prevent this.I would ignore the review starting with Turdicous as it is incorret and offensive. Go back to the dark ages you weirdo! That's were you belong.

Turd;icious.

Ate there today. My chicken tikka masala was weird, nor was it the level of spiciness I requested (4/5=0). My mango lassi was slightly rotten. I heard them microwave our samosas. For thirty dollars it would have been OK. For forty plus tip, aw hell NO. The service was non-existent. I have no clue how this place received such a favorable review. The location in Northgate is worse, & the server high pressure sales you into shit you don't want. AVOID.

Great Indian food for dinner or buffet, now even closer to home

Mirch Masala has been a staple for my family since before they opened, as they also run Masala of India in Northgate. Before Mirch opened their doors on Broadway we would trek to the frozen north for their weekend buffet, and now we only have to go a few blocks to Broadway. YAY!

The Sunday buffet is still a regular day-after ritual for my clan, always accompanied by garlic naan, hot chai, and a cold mango lassi.

I can't rave enough about this place!

Very great restaurant

This is the best Indian restaurant anywhere near Capitol Hill, and I've never eaten anything here that wasn't delicious. I try and order something different every time, but usually find myself ordering the Butter Chicken. It makes me happy just thinking about it. The prices are a little high, but it seems like when you get the food you forget all about that.

Delicious Food, Surreal Service

This is now my favorite Indian food in Capitol Hill, maybe even Seattle. We had Saag Paneer, Butter Chicken and Baingan Bharta and all were great. The service however, is close to bizarre. We were asked if we were ready to order SEVEN times in the first ten minutes we sat down, with all of our menus fully open. So it wasn't BAD service, but sort of odd. definitely still worth eating there.

Sad

The raita was nice and thick, and the bread was great. The saag paneer, however, had like four pieces of paneer! How can they charge $10-11 for that? The paneer tikka masala, while not stingy with the cheese, was the oiliest version I have ever had - and hardly thicker than water! Seriously, much thinner than tomato soup, with pools of oil upon pools of oil. Very disappointing. The U District has excellent Indian food: Bombay Grill, Cedars, Taste of India. What's wrong with Capitol Hill? We have Maharaja, where you have to PAY EXTRA FOR PLAIN RICE and the food is subpar; Chutney's, whose food and service varies dramatically day by day, and is generally overpriced and somewhat snotty; and India Express, whose ambience is close to pathetic but is where I go if I want Indian food and don't have time to venture to the U District. Bombay Grill, please open a restaurant on Capitol Hill and save us from places like Mirch Masala!

Agreed Best Indian on the Hill

Have to second pretty much everything Sugarfairy said. The naan was miss both times I ate there but the onion kulcha was better. I still wish we had a GREAT (i.e. as good as Vij's in BC) indian restaurant in Seattle. Oh yea the people who work at M.M. are really nice. Delicious food, wonderful service

Perfect rainy day Sunday lunch. The butter chicken is tastier than that place in the U-District. Even late in the buffet, the chicken was plentiful.

great okra!

we tried 2 veggie dishes, both were superb- and I don't even usually like okra. will definately go back. other review is correct about service being a little- over-attentive, but at least you won't find your water glass empty. plus, for you alcoholics, they have beer wine AND hard liquor.

Best Indian food *on Capitol Hill*

Forget the standard-issue chicken tikka masala and tandreary tandoori. The mark of a good Indian restaurant is in how they prepare their lamb dishes and baingan bharta. Mirch Masala scores on both counts. Be adventurous and order the lamb methi even if you don't have any clue what is "fenugreek". Or get the rack of lamb. Seafood dishes in Indian restaurants stateside are basically a sham. Indians - myself included - have not found fish like we used to prepare it back home. If you must have chicken, try the chicken goan curry. Naan, though they offer 7 or 8 different varieties, is hit or miss. Chai is good, beer is better. The daily lunch buffet is really good. I'd go everyday if my lunch budget was $10/day (with tax tip). Service is actually over-attentive.
