Amazing value

The vegi and non-vegi combos are both delicious and a great deal. I've been to several Ethiopian restaurants in the neighborhood and this is my favorite. Service is always gracious but at a more European pace, they won't bring you the check until you ask, so it's not a place I'd go in a hurry.

I live in walking distance to 5 ethiopian restaurants in and around the Central District, and Adey Abeba is definitely my favorite! The food is always delicious (my default out-of-towner's dinner, which is always a hit!), and since the whole place is run by a small family, it was easy to develop a relationship with them. Now I get great food and feel homey and welcome whenever I go. Love it!

ethiopian food is for lovahs!

There are several great Ethiopian restaurants in the Central District, but Adey Abeba is remarkable for three reasons: 1) the veggi platter is an even more gigantic feast than one might normally find in another restaurant, 2) the coffee service is amazing..they bring out a small decanter of specially brewed dar, syrupy stuff that will amaze you, stay hot forever, and continue to pour LONG past the point when the magic container should have been emptied, 3) speaking of empty...nobody is ever AT this restaurant, so there is no wait for your food, and your patronage really helps to keep this family business going. Go there with a friend. What is the worst thing that will happen? You will pig out on incredible stuff (for carnivores, the LAMB STEW is rich, tender, and spicy) and do a nice thing for the neighborhood.

cheap and buttery and spicey

I've got a soft spot for Ethiopian vegi combos and this place has a damn good one. Great balance of flavors and textures, lots of juicy buttery spicy goodness to soak up with spongy injeera. It's the perfect size for two people and only about ten bucks. The room is relaxed and low key, and it's on a quiet corner close to Cap Hill. What else do you want? Well, go ahead and try the yummy Chai tea too. And don't forget: Al Gore would be proud of you for eating vegi.
