Great Mexican food - comparable to top border restaurants
I hail from Southern California, where good South of the Border restaurants are a dime a dozen, and we recently purchased a house at the western end of 85th Street NW. We were delighted to discover that one of the very best Mexican Restaurants in Ballard is just a block away. The food and drinks is exceptional, and everything appears to be prepared to order. i have heard complaints about slow service, but that is to be expected at great restaurants in Mexico where patrons enjoy a "manana" pace, chatting and drinking with family and friends, and where meals are created from scratch.

Cocina is a great place to enjoy true mexican food. Plates include sincronizadas, pollo enchilado, chile rellenos etc... If you are confused and have no idea of these plates chances are you have not had a real mexican meal. I highly encourage you to try some delicious meals at Cocina esperanza, the queso fundido with mushrooms is amazing!!!

The title says it all. They do a great job but are very inefficient. Expect to wait 30 minutes for even the shortest order and the slow service ensures a line at the door (no reservations). Also, forget about takeout on Friday or Saturday, they refuse because they can't handle it. Other days, they'll do it. I live nearby and would eat their food every week if it weren't for this.

mui delicioso! quaint, cute, charming, totally tasty. my 5 year old son scarfs down their perfectly seasoned rice, tiny tortillas and house-made jimaica (hibiscus flower tea) - i am a huge fan of the carne burrito with verde sauce...the busser seems to smoke too much weed though. he's a little slow on the uptake and it bugs me!

This place is off the beaten track, but the food is really quite good. A small little place with great enchiladas, fresh fish, and other specialties. Just up from Golden Gardens.
