I Love Luna Park Cafe!

The working vintage tin-toy Batmobile, the laminated one-sheets Velcroed to the walls describing the history of Luna Park (Coney Island of the West!), the (former) World's Largest Working Electric Guitar, the clockwork tin big band above the door, the collection of vintage lunchboxes...oh, and omelettes, pancakes (including the peanut-butter-bacon-banana Elvis Pancakes), burgers, shakes, onion rings...while the food itself is pretty standard 'classic diner' fare, the versatility of Luna Park Cafe (it's a great place to take visiting parents, kids, and babies in car seats for brunch or supper, but also a great place to take your hipster friends for a pre-func or first date at Happy Hour, and something about the atmosphere inspires the all-over-the-map clientele of kids, younger couples, families, grey-hairs, and purple-n-black-haired hipsters to strike up jovial conversations with each other), along with the novelty-vintage decor (which makes you want to buy a 50's hot rod or an old Vespa just to park in the parking lot) almost trumps the satisfying-if-slightly-unremarkable menu. But when it comes to a 'breakfast and burger joint', you want a cook, not a chef, and you want safe-and-reliable, not inventive 'fusion'. If the socio-gastronomic mood you're in dictates that 'fusion' should consist of slapping a piece of grilled cheese on a piece of grilled meat, this is your place.

Forgotten

Loved this place for a long time,BUT 45 minutes for a menu on a slow morning?! Sitting in the back, our waitress poured coffee promptly and never returned. When I went to leave, the long lost waitress looked confused as she searched for our tab. I informed her that there was no check because we were NEVER GIVEN A MENU!!! Sorry, Glenn Miller on the juke box cant fix *&!@#$% service.

Mmmm is for Mouse

I went there with some friends on Saturday April 5th. I will say the peanut butter milkshake I had was delish. But just as we were finishing up our meal a mouse bee lined it down the aisle and ran under the dancing clown machine we were sitting by. Our waitress didn't seem all that surprised when we told her, and she pretty much just dismissed it with a shrug. Even if this is a good greasy spoon with an insanely big menu, I can't give a restaurant a good rating when there are mice about...I just can't.

MmmmmMilkshakes!

Luna Park Cafe totally rocks! The atmosphere is great--memorabilia about the old Luna Park, vintage lunch boxes, and tableside jukeboxes with a great selection of tunes. The food is delicious--burgers the way burgers at a diner should be, crisp fries, and the breakfast food is out of this world (and served all day!). But the star of the show, in my opinion is the milkshake. Thick, rich, served in fountain glasses with the big metal cup it was made in alongside for seconds. The hot fudge is divine, the banana split tastes like a liquid banana split and the butterscotch is heavenly. It's a kid friendly place but it's not over run with young 'uns and the ones that are there have so much to distract them that they usually don't have epic meltdowns. It's also a great place to take a date--order a soda fountain drink--with two straws--and pretend you're in an episode of Happy Days while Elvis croons "Can't Help Falling in Love."

Luna Park Cafe is a Hidden Gem

Getting lost in West Seattle is always fun, especially if you're hungry. This place was packed and they did everything right. My partner and I split a cherry shake, yes, Cherry! It arrived in 2 glasses, topped with whipped cream, nuts, and a marichino cherry. We both got burgers: a Veggie Fairburger (gardenburger with grilled onions and cheese) and a Chicken Cheese burger. I subbed a salad for my fries and was really impressed with the huge serving of veggies. Fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cabbage, carrots, sprouts, and sunflower seeds topped with blue cheese dressing. No boring salad from a bag here. My partner's fries were also great, crisp on the outside, soft melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. Homemade tartar sauce was excellent, but the house ranch is really where its at. The ranch arrived as a sauce for the onion rings, a not to be missed experience. No one makes onion rings like this anymore. We were completely stuffed by the time we walked out of there, but couldnt resist a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie from Alki Bakery to go. The atmosphere is relaxed family friendly with quick efficient staff. Johnny Rocket's eat your heart out, Luna Park Cafe is a real diner with real food. We'll definitely be back.

Their breakfast ROCKS!

While Luna Park is set up for the good 'ol burger joint/diner menu, they do their hobo's and hashes RIGHT! Haven't had a bad meal there yet in 4 years!

Why haven't you been here?

A little hipster, but very friendly staff. Our waiter cut up some salad fixin's and brought around a mock appetizer platter. It was pretty cute and totally random. The chicken sandwich was filling and tasty. Good place for family and friends. Not sure how busy it gets in the summer, but I would highly recommend you check it out if you haven't already. Go now! Shake, burger and fries baby!

Old School Charm

The appeal for visiting a restaurant like Luna Park has always been the atmosphere. The booths and jukebox are the real deal, a must see for any vintage-phile. The classic diner food is consistantly good, the grilled veggie sandwich is a great twist on vegetarian diner food and my personal favourite on a menu dominated by hoagies, hobos and hashs
