  • This is a wonderfully weird place. The N'awlins has been serving Cajun and Creole food; jazz, blues, and zydeco bands; and Southern hospitality to cold, stiff Seattle for 20 or so years. The interior is kitschy in a chain-establishment sort of way, but rest assured that a local woman owns and runs the place. This is possibly the only place in Washington that serves the Big Easy's delicious Abita beer. Family-friendly until 10 pm (bring the kids down for some mid-week ragtime jazz). Part of the Pioneer Square joint-cover deal on weekends.
  • Happy Hour: Mon-Sat 4-7 pm ($3 local drafts and PBR, $4 wells and house wine, $5 Hurricanes, $3-$6 food specials).
  • Features: Full Menu, Live Music, Happy Hour, Good for Groups and Dancing
  • Scene: Themed and Nightclub

Great place... just not worth $8 per head

I brought an out of town friend here just to see a place I thought would be interesting and unusual. It was, and the food was okay. I'd had their jambalaya before and it was decent enough to remind me of my childhood in the South. The service was slow, but apologetic, and they brought us a free bowl of gumbo. But here's the thing... on Friday or Saturday (when you really want to go there), you have to pay $8 per person at the door. This is a higher cover than most of the *clubs* I've been to in Seattle, let alone a restaurant. So despite enjoying the food, the music, and the ambiance, all we talked about was how ridiculous it is to charge cover, and to charge THAT much cover. So it spoiled the experience. Then the next day with friends it was the first thing you wanted to mention "... but they charged $8 cover." I can't say I'll ever bother going back unless I'm picking up something to go, and that's a shame.

The food is part of the ambiance

I don't think you should expect amazing things...but is really cheap food (the red beans and rice is real good and real huge and $1.50). Then, there is free music...it's a pretty sweet place, with some characters too. I highly recommend it for a fun cheap time.

What is up with the food?

The space is stunning and the music is vibrant. Some people got up to dance between the tables when we were there on an early Tuesday evening. Maybe because they were repelled by the "food." I'm talking wilted iceberg for the salad, with ranch dressing I believe, followed by some iffy looking/smelling steamed shrimp with bottled barbeque sauce on the side. My entree was supposed to be some sort of seafood/eggplant cajun concoction, but when it arrived, it was a big goopy brown ick. I gave it a few bites and then headed to Taco del Mar.
