My favorite restaurant

I have never had anything at this restaurant that was not amazing. Whenever we take friends here, they love it as well. The lamb, whether it is in the adonna kabob or the lamb kebab is the best I have ever tasted. And yes, my food had been served in a bubbling pot!!

Homerun!

We are regular fans of Ephesus and not put off by the waits at busy times. Each dish is prepared with care by Hassan, the owner/chef. He overlooks what goes out of his kitchen and that takes time. My husband often orders the Chicken Toprak and it has always arrived in a bubbling pot. Perhaps even good places have off nights. Wine can always be turned down, if it's not what was ordered, but it's always good manners to humbly accept what is served, unless it's totally undrinkable. I guess we always think we're guests in Hassaan's house and he wouldn't serve something he wouldn't drink. I always order the lamb as he serves it succulent and juicy...best around I think. Our dinners always came with great salads, not as a separate charge as in most restaurants. We also order the excellent ezme, hummus, or eggplant appetizers with no extra charge for additional bread. We only order Turkish coffee if he's not so busy as we think of other customers still waiting for their dinners. We dine out quite a bit and find that each place offers a different experience from Canlis to Thanh Brothers. That is the adventure in dining...to come with no expectations, but to experience a chef's "house" as guests. Our belief is that most chefs try hard, have off nights, and unfortunately don't last if their performance is consistently poor. Ephesus has been serving guests in West Seattle for a very long time and has not opened another place, perhaps because Hassan cannot be in two places at once.

A Pretty Good Place

I've always been pleased with the complex stewed flavors of the food at Ephesus, bubbling pot or not. The ambiance is warm and friendly. Just don't go there if you are starving because it may take a little while to get your food.

We've eaten at Ephesus many times and have always had great exeperiences. The food is fantastic. Contrary to the review above, our food did come in a a bubbling pot!

Swing and a Miss!!!!

Based on the review I read by Chris McCann I decide to go to Ephesus with my girlfriend and some friends. I am not picky by any means and I am not one of those people that causes a scene at restaurants. In fact I have never even sent food back, but this place was really bad. I dont care how nice a place is (and this place is very nice and comfortable) its about the food. We ordered a bottle of St. Joseph Pinot Noir an Oregon wine. We are brought and served a Pinot by a different name from California and then told by the waitress that its the same thing. Now I dont know a lot about wine but I do know that this would be absolutely unacceptable to anyone who does. The other main thing was that the dishes were not prepared the way the menu described. There was no bubbling stoneware pot!!! Just rice, fish and steamed vegetable for me and just rice and chicken for my girlfriend!!!! Where was the stoneware pot where was the potatoes? I was looking for a cultural experience and I did not get it. At the prices they charge you can get a way better meal somewhere else.
