Good Food but rude service

I have eaten at Cafe Yarmaka twice. The food is fantastic but both times the service was quite rude. The menu is a little difficult to figure out the first time and I know the staff gets tired of explaining how it works...over and over. However, don't take it out on your customers! I hate to give up the best beet salad I have ever eaten but I probably won't go back. There are too many other great (and friendlier) eateries in the market.

Cabbage Rolls

Great as well. Better than one grandmother's and possibly better than the other's. Two visits in one week, and I might head there over the weekend. The Stranger doesn't have Russian restaurants as a category, and there is a whole paper published in Russian over in Kirkland?

Good Borscht

I had an Eastern European grandmother so this place has all my comfort foods. I probably last had borscht at 2nd Ave Deli a few years ago. I went with the big bowl for $5, and it was delicious. Plenty of texture and flavor, and just the right amount of sour cream. Probably the best I've had outside the Grand Forks Hotel. I'm definitely going back for the cabbage rolls, although the lentil soup looked pretty satisfying as well.

An authentic experience

The menu is short and sweet. You will not find a dozen of items to choose from. Instead you will get an authentic meal made from scratch right in front of of you. The pelmeni were fantastic! I brought my friend from OK to Pike Place just for a quick bite at Yarmarka. She enjoyed the experience immensely! So drop in for a quick bite and a quick chat with the owners.
