The sloppy joe has been fixed

Follow up to my comment posted in August... I got an email from the manager of Quinn's apologizing, and informing me that they've switched the sloppy joe back to the brioche bun. So I take back everything I said. I love you Quinn's.

I've been here more times than I can count. I'm a regular, I love love love this place, and I would normally give it 4 or 5 stars. But last night I went back and for the first time ever, Quinn's has done something unforgivable. The Wild Boar Sloppy Joe has been on the menu forever. I love it, order it regularly. It used to be served on the same fantastic brioche bun they use for the burger. Last night I ordered it and it arrived on a bun I could buy at Safeway. In fact I can buy BETTER buns at Safeway. For the first time ever, it felt like Quinn's was cheaping out. I told the waiter I was deeply disappointed and would never order the sloppy joe again. He took it off my check and apologized, so five stars on service. Five stars on the rest of our meal, and on the old fashioned which is one of the best drinks in town. But if I could give zero stars for the sloppy joe, I would. It is ruined. Hey Quinn's - either raise the price 50 cents to cover the good bun, or take this item off the menu. You want to serve those buns? Open a Red Robin franchise. We've come to expect much more from you.

Why Foie Gras?

We were attracted to Quinn's because of the quality of interior and the mingling atmosphere, but then were horrified to see Foie Gras on the menu! Why would an otherwise attractive pub feel the need to put this on the menu? Before leaving, we asked and were told they source their foie gras from Hudson Valley. If anyone wants to see how Hudson's birds are treated, there is video (from a recent pre-scheduled visit) at http://www.cok.net/feat/hudsonvalley.php -- judge for yourself.
This ethical foodie recommends people avoid Quinn's.

Fish and Chips was horrible

Went there with a group of 10. their apps are good, but overpriced. Their burgers are average...not better of worse than say the Attic...but overpriced. Some of us ordered the fish and chips and we were shocked at what we got: One gian peice of overcooked fish smothered with crusty, greasy batter with soggy fries. I didn't touch it. Good space, good service, food needs work and prices need a revision.

Best meal in Seattle

I just got back from Quinn's after a 4 hour meal with friends. Service, atmosphere, food and drinks were all incredible. It's a little pricey, especially for a student, but I'd suggest either a) have someone else (older) pay; b) pre-funk both food and drink to minimize cost; or c) go on a special occasion where you've saved money to buy food- you won't be disappointed. We chose to share a bunch of their small plates- so we had frog legs, pig tail, tongue, and so much more- each one delicious. The dessert was nothing to write home about, so skip it, or replace it with booze- of which they have a great selection.

First time at Quinn's the other night. It was on. I came in expecting a pretentious atmosphere knowing that it is not a cheap place to eat/in a trendy section of town/just from looking at the clientele. I was proven wrong. Our server Walid was everything a great server should be: friendly, interested, interesting, knowledgable, interactive, casual but organized, patient, etc... Decor is dope: they obviously put a lot of care into it. From the evening light streaming in the large plate glass windows, to the exposed wood beams to the converted urban industrial feel of the upper windows. Could have been in Paris or in Brooklyn. The food was sublime. hearty fries with melted fontina cheese and gravy evoked the comfort of a New jersey diner while fresh sea scallops in a light citrus sauce kept the cuisine anchored in quality pacific northwest form. Oxtail's off the hook. It is not cheap. But for this quality of food, it is a good deal. If you like to feel fancy and want people to wear fancy clothing while serving you, don't come here. actually you probable shouldn't even eat in Seattle then. Or go to Ray's boat house or some shit. actually i've never been there, but is sounds fancy. The servers here wear t-shirts. It seems the place wants to be known as a relaxed pub kind of restaurant. I'm down with that. I hate fancy. but that's me. if you like it go somewhere else.

One of the best...

Well worth a ferry ride for us. Great atmosphere, awesome service, exciting menu. Anyone complaining about prices here probably hasn't been to enough places without a drive-thru; very fair prices in our opinion. We'll be back...maybe I'll have the guts to try the duck eggs next time.

I'm sorry, some of us do not work in the software industry (teachers, firefighters, nurses, etc.) and can't afford $18 burger beer. Cap Hill is a bubble within a bubble.

This place rocks!

I'll admit I order a burger everytime I come in (cause it's the best in town), but I also steal bites of everone elses food and it's all amazing. Service here is definately neighborhood casual, always attentive, and that's what I like in my neighborhood bar. Rob the bartender is fantastic!

Good but too expensive

The chow is really good. The beer and drinks are pretty good. The prices are silly. If they want to be a pub, they need to keep is under 35 bucks for a couple of drinks and an ap or two. It actually pisses me off a bit. They're not going to have regulars which will kill the vibe of a place like that. Ad the giant windows on busy street and you even feel a bit conspicuous sucking down $12 beers. I don't want the world to know I'm a sucker.

not good, def not great

The weds night hostess is a bit rude and was not at all helpful or accommodating to our group. She also looked like she had just rolled into her clothes, right off the floor but so did most of the staff. Get a few tips from the fab mustachioed bartender, he knows how to rock a look. We were sure that our server had never waited tables before. Barely competent, hurried, dismissive and paid the barest of attention to our table of 9. The food was good but not great, far better than the service. There is nothing more that I hate than feeling like an imposition on the staff especially when I haven't even been given a chance to impose. I won't return and won't recommend.

Consistently excellent

Have been many times now, and am happy to now count this among my regular spots. Cocktails are fantastic - my favorite by far is the Old Fashioned. Small plates have all been good, except the gougeres which twice have arrived not-quite-hot all the way through. The pates have all been outstanding, especially the recently added "Duck, Duck, Mousse." I agree with the others who praised the burger. Although it once arrived almost inedibly rare, it has otherwise been heart-stoppingly delicious. Tied with Palace Kitchen for "Best Burger in Seattle" as far as I'm concerned. Other large plates have been excellent as well, without exception. The tuna, the lentils, the steak, I have yet to be disappointed. Love the ambiance, love the drinks, love the food, love the friendly and competent service. A fantastic addition to the hill, and definitely worth the wait.

Delicious Food, Incredible Atmosphere

Quinn's is hands-down the best dining experience I had had in Seattle. The environment was at once casual yet cosmopolitan. It felt intimate and full of character and lacked the underlying cold, sterile feeling that many local restaurants have. We shared a variety of small plates and one entree, and all were wonderful: The rabbit pate served with a delicious ground mustard, crostini, and perfectly tart vegetable pickles. We followed that with the expertly-selected cheese plate including a lovely local goat. The fennel bread salad had a novel smoky taste unlike anything I've ever had -- in a good way. We ended with tuna steak served with cannellini beans and finished with a foie gras jus. Our before-dinner cocktails were exquisite with the exception of the Sage Margarita which was the only part of the meal that wasn't mind-blowingly amazing. Worth the wait.

Quinns definitely doesn't save the hill!

I went to Quinns with great expectations...they were not met. After trying for weeks to get in, I won't wait for over 45 minutes to eat anywhere, we finally made the effort to get there right at 5:30.... Good idea cause it filled up quickly thereafter. I feel that even if a restaurant isn't trying to be "upscale", it's nice to see some kind of dress code for the servers/runners. Our waiter pretty much ruined the experience for our 6 top. Attitude, sloppy dress, no personality except too cool for school, not helpful with any questions we had of the menu. Ordered the burger - over cooked, gnocci - so so, everything was just so so, nothing was piping hot - say no more... Then when we got our bill, an automatic gratutiy was added and then we were asked by the manager if we needed anything else - as he's collecting our empty glasses (read-get out we want to turn your table now) and we had just finished eating.. Needless to say - I will not be returning to Quinns - not impressed and felt like a stranger in my own neighborhood - sorry Quinns does not save capitol hill... peace...

can the wobbly dear run yet?

I haven't been back since (because of) my first visit, when the medium rare burger was burnt, and they would only put cheddar on it, and we were told that they don't carry tartar sauce for their fish and chips (fish being one little cube.) Oh, any good NW beer yet?

seriously? 4 stars? seriously? no.

went. had an over peppered pork sandwich, partner had the meatball sliders. wasn't impressed by either, or the dessert. a brulee. boring. it just all seemed too fussy, and the crowd was NOT c.h. at all. wall to wall yuppies. yuck. the table next to the right of us was a group of female bridge and tunnelers talking about "shoes" ALL NIGHT LONG. and to the left a group of w.a.c. guys talking about their mistresses tits. EW. probably won't go back, just too precious. but oddly not gourmet enough.

epic, epherial gastro pub delux!

for those that "get it", you are grinnin' happy like me. for those that don't, a few things; 1) give 'em a break - they just opened; 2)a restaurant of this caliber is entitled a taste authority - eat it the way they serve it: this ain't burger king foo, they spent a bunch of time finding the perfect cheese for the perfect burger - and their right!; 3)finally, understand and evaluate this for what it is: the new model for casual, elevated dining whilist a easy-going, accessible, fun, well executed gastro-pub. this place totally rocks! *****my one caveat: no good IPA?!?!??!

Burger of the Gods

I've had the burger at Quinn's several times, just to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke. It wasn't a fluke. Pity the poor vegetarians, this thing is sublime. Otherwise, Quinn's is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, though I wish it were about 8% less fancy and more hang-outy.

I love this place--it's so pretty inside and they play good music. The food was great--we had the steak and the trout. I don't usually like fish but I loved the tender crispy trout my friend ordered. We had an amazing chocolate dessert, their baker does wicked things with sugar and butter. I wish Quinn's was open for lunch, we need a place to get a decent burger around here. The service was charming, absolutely spot on charming. I briefly met the owner and was touched that such a kind and lovely man was making such kind and lovely food. I'm sincerely pleased this place is in Capitol Hill, because I've long envied Phinney's Oliver Twist and Wallingford's Art of the Table.

excellent!!!

we had a wonderful time at quinns! great food. the service was good. we enjoyed a hamburger and fries, sloppy joe, sliders, and ducks eggs. the manager came out and greeted us and asked how we were enjoying our food and all we could say was; mmmmmmmmmmm!! i can't wait to go back.

The wine selection was truly boring. "Gastro-pub" is a term that makes me want to throw up in my mouth. It apparently means you make bar food fussy and precious. Like sliders without a bun.

Mayo, bottled water and other things

Brecky, thanks for the feed back. i'm sorry we didn't have mayo for you. we usually have it! we're just 3 weeks old and getting it together. As well, we're adding a lower end bottled water to complement the Scottish water selection (which we have for serving with our growing list of bourbons and single malts.) they will both be added to the menu. our goal is for everyone to have a great time and if you're in agian, i'd like the chance to provide you with a better experience! P.S. thanks for the mayo.

Decent but big kinks to iron out

Had a fine meal. Overall liked the selection of dishes (think the gourmet-ness of Cafe Presse plus the nouveau pub-iness of Smith) and the upstairs at least has a nice upscale bohemian vibe. BUT: waiter told us "sorry we're out of mayo for the night". WTF???? How can a place with a vaguely pub-like menu with a burger on it be out of mayo. ("FOR THE NIGHT") WTF? How long does it take to whip up some mayo? And you're block from QFC for christ's sake! AND: maybe I missed it, but nowhere on the menu were non-alcoholic beverages listed. So I inquired and was told "well we have some sparkling water". Sounds good, I say. But when the check arrives that water cost more than the wine we ordered. WTF? If you're gonna charge $8 for water could ya please list it on the menu so people have a CHANCE to find out beforehand that they're being gouged? Or if the menu is too cool to list soft drinks and bubbly water on it then the wait staff at least has to disclose that the sparkling water they're offering you is going to cost you more than most of the wine and appetizer selections on the menu. It's just frickin water! JEEESH!

Quinn's saves the hill

Thank god that awful dive of a mexican restaurant is gone. If I have to hear one more hipster rant about the loss, I'll simply go Columbine. My visit to Quinn's was superb. The selection, prices, quality and service are things that this neighborhood has been long lacking. Keep up the good work.

wobbly newborn deer or just bad?

Can't say as I was all too impressed with Quinn's based on my visit last night. The host was phenomenal, very attentive and friendly, which signified good things to come, but after the wait it went precipitously downhill from there. My companion requested a cheese other than cheddar on her burger and was shockingly flat-out refused ("no, only cheddar for the burgers" even though there's a ham and gruyere sandwich and other cheeses on the menu), which is like getting a $12 Dick's burger (it was very tasty, although it was also not cooked to order, so she lost out on two counts). The oxtail, marrow and gnocchi contained no marrow whatsoever and some very unpleasantly slimy, pasty gnocchi (the oxtail was good, though). The pear/endive salad was remarkable for being impossibly bland and flavorless considering its ingredients, and the roasted cauliflower, while also tasty, had a texture best suited for convalescent homes. The foie gras mousse was good, too, but it's kind of hard to screw up foie gras. And tables were too closely placed together so we got to deal with our neighbor's argument as if we were involved. La Puerta wasn't great Mexican food by any real standard, but at least you knew what you were getting and it was comfortable. Quinn's is going to have to try a little harder to be a good replacement.
