HORRIBLE service...

I get it. This is a "cool" place. A place where you can have tattoos and dreadlocks and big gauged ears and be welcomed and employed. You can swear while you are working, to your customers. Great. The food was wonderful. I had a crime brûlée that was one of the best I've ever tasted. I had a lemon drop martini that I had no complaints about. Evidently what you can't get here is good service, or a manager that gives a crap about customer satisfaction.

I've never had worse service in my life than I did last night at this restaurant. The service was slow. The waiter took our orders and then proceeded to auction off all of our drinks and food, not having bothered to mark down who had ordered what, which is very very basic table service 101. He actually seemed irritated when the guest of honor in our party of 12 didn't realize what he was auctioning off was her dessert. It was embarrassing and ridiculous.

Being a server and bartender for the better of the last 10 years, I'm very tolerant of a waiter in the weeds, of mistakes. They happen. When I'm not tolerant of is complete incompetence and a snooty, "we don't care" attitude when I'm spending almost 20 for A drink and A dessert.

Then, to complete the "horrible service" trifecta, we were told at the end of the meal it wasn't possible to get separate checks. It is their "policy" to only split group checks 4 ways. What they really mean is that they don't know how to set up their POS system in order to include the gratuity on separate checks, and really, with service THAT horrible I can see why they would want to make sure it is included in the bill.

After speaking to the manager, we were allowed separate checks, BUT the waiter handed me the bill and told me WE would have to separate it out ourselves because he didn't know who had what.

So I went around and divided the table by seats, and gave him the list. He came back and set the bills down in a pile, with the 18% gratuity hand written on each one. For us, again, to figure out which went where even though I had them clearly marked on the list by seat, in standard format.

I've NEVER not left a tip before, but needless to say mine was a big 0 this night.

I've never been this disappointed in a restaurant before. Ever. The two stars are for my food only.

Seriously, how hard is it to serve dessert and ONE round of drinks to a 12 top? Not. That. Complicated. Get it together.

For any occasion

I've been to the Mocha Martini bar now for everything from a date to hanging out with a large group of friends and it just keeps getting better. The food menu is spectacular (the Caprese and Market Special are a must for starters and the Meatloaf is incredible) and all of the drinks ranging from the Martini's to the beers on tap are tasty delights. The brunch menu is also great!

Brunch!

Go for brunch! I guess they just started doing it- but we stumbled in this saturday looking for cake and ended up having a really good nutella crepe and a chicken crepe. They also have a classic type breakfast, as well as sweet/savory crepes, french toast, etc. Perfect for the worst hangover. Plus, the bloody mary's are fantastic!

Used to be better...

I still go now and then, but I feel like the quality of the desserts has slipped a little in the past years. They've changed their ice cream so it isn't as creamy, and some of the cakes are a little dry or bland. Skip the cheesecake entirely! However, I highly recommend their champagne truffles, and I've always been a big fan of the ephemere sauce! They do have nice shakes and cocoas too, if that's your thing.

Great Date Place!!

I went here after a dinner and a movie date. The movie was over but we were not ready to call it a night. I found it to be a perfect alternative to the usual/tired "after movie cocktails" We had the best hot chocolate I've ever tasted in my life! The place was quiet and romantic. Perfect for gazing, talking and sharing a dessert! I also noticed they sold tons of great gift packs. Perfect for housewarming gifts or office birthday presents.

I like the sundaes

I love the ice cream sundaes. They are the best in seattle. The ephemere sauce is so good. I don't give a rip who else is there. It's broadway, expect some weirdos.

Pervy

Is it me, or is this place totally the perviest place on Broadway? I've been there once and it reminds me of that odd ice cream shop in the royal tenenbaums where daddies take their little girls for some sort of strange pre-feminist ice-cream fantasy, except this time, the medium is chocolate and the place is more dimly lit. I left there annoyed and a little scared, and when I got home, I took a shower.
