Disneynature, a subsidiary of Disney, brings a very family-friendly story from the jungles of the Ivory Coast and Uganda, told in a way that only Tim Allen can tell it, complete with grunts and a joke about power tools. The nature documentary explores adoption in the wild as it follows Oscar, the youngest, cutest ape of a chimpanzee family, nearly orphaned after his mother’s heart-wrenching death at the claws of a hungry leopard. The movie touches on some of the cultural/survival basics of chimpanzee life: grooming, territorial battles with neighboring chimps, and, most importantly, they eat a monkey. The film is beautiful and touching, with rousing bouts of anthropomorphic dialogue via the Tool Man. (AMY SCOTT)
