What makes her a bitch is her blatant lack of self-awareness. The idea that she leads off with labeling herself as the good girl (she even paints it with false modesty, saying that it's just what others call her), while engaging in immoral activity isn't really sympathetic. She blames all of her hurt on the guy, accepting no responsibility herself. Not once does she admit that she might have done wrong, nor does she show any guilt; the only emotion she displays in the letter is the desire for vindication.

If this had been a sad, tear-stricken letter that admitted she got entangled in a mess and now can't help her feelings for the guy and regrets but cannot help her own desire to sabotage the relationship so that she might have him for her own (as is clearly the case), then sympathy would've been given. But to be so unawares as to consider herself blameless and deserving of revenge? That shows that she's a 'consummate bitch'.

Yes, there are people that ride bikes across the bridge. But 80% of NYers don't have bikes- none of my friends do, and they're certainly not going to get one today, just for this.

People commute miles into Manhattan from the outer burough, and these are the people on the bottom rung of the socioeconomic ladder. The disruption about trains being down goes beyond 'just use a bike'. All colleges are shut down, for example, in the enitre city, just because no-one is able to get to them.

Yes, it is possible to deal with tragedy through comedy. SHOCKER!

I pay $670 for a hipster community in Brooklyn (my window looks out at a dive bar, an organic corner grocery store, and 1 block away are a bike shop, a green gym, and three coffee shops). I have a 10-15 minute subway ride to the middle of Manhattan. I have no need of a car.

Life is pretty good in NYC; and unless you're stupid and want to live in Manhattan like most people that move here from across the country, it's really pretty damn reasonable.

Yeah, you guys should be paying more attention to this. This is the best that's out there for these amazingly brilliant artsy games, all for a great cause and an interesting payment model. It's hard to argue that video games can't be art after looking at stuff like these.
Feb 16, 2012 Iroohik commented on Santorum on George W. Bush.
See, there's a reason that Rick Snyder (the governor of Michigan) hasn't called for the dissolution of unions like Kasich, Walker, or any of the other new breeds of Republican governors. Because it's so well-ingrained into Michigan culture that it's a political death wish. (It's actually a death wish for Wisconsin too, Walker is just taking a while to lay down and die already).

Michigan has the auto companies ingrained into their blood. That's why it's hurting so much right now, and has been for the last several decades; yes, manufacturing hurt Michigan when it left, but it also gave Michigan a bit of an identity crises and ego problem that it hasn't been able to recover from.

GM and Ford doing well, and more importantly GM championing Detroit in their commercials and bringing jobs back to the state has revitalized Michigan's love affair with them. In a way, Michiganders almost see the auto companies and Michigan as one and the same thing; that's why they're so protective of them.

So while that was a terrible move by Santorum, I think that he can't be quite that stupid. I think that it was tactically a sign that he sees Michigan as a lost cause; he's sacrificing points in Michigan to gain a couple points spread out over the rest of the country. Which is why he draws the line to Bush over Obama; he's not trying to convince Michiganders that he's better than Obama. He's trying to convince the rest of the country that he's not afraid to say thing that he's politically not supposed to say. It's all an attempt to paint himself as an honest outsider, as a contrast to Romney.

Feb 16, 2012 Iroohik commented on Tyler the Creator vs The Mentors.
Interesting side note: GWAR (who is both Shock Rock as well as heartily endorsed by the Stranger)has actually condemned the Mentors because of their supposed pro-rape stance. This pushed the Mentors into claiming that, "the fans want more rape-rock!" which led to the creation of more rape-rock bands.

Also, the tag for this post is pretty great.

@59 Hell, consider Run For Your Life and Under My Thumb, for that matter. They aren't as bad as Polly, but they certainly don't have a story arch.

@58 "I don't want to understand where Tyler the Creator is coming from. He lost any curiosity and understanding I could've had..."

Right. But then why are you actively fighting and protesting against something you don't understand? That's pretty bigoted.

"He's already said why he says it: To shock people. That's it. Any other reasons people give on his behalf are their own interpretations of his words and actions."

...You're right. You don't understand him. But here's a key; he actively stays in character in all of his media and social networking. (that's actually one of the reasons that he's so popular;how deftly and successfully he understands and manipulates social media and the internet age, and how to become an internet celebrity.) You claiming that the only reason he does it is to shock people because he said so is like claiming that Colbert is really a conservative because he said so on an interview.
