Will Microsoft's Next Xbox Eat Your TV?.
@17 You know the post topic is about watching TV shows through an Xbox, right? The idea that disc-based games won't play without a connection is wild speculation at this point. If you're going to be harshly critical of my analogy you should come up with something better than tech press FUD. Besides, expecting disc media to continue to be the core of *any* next generation entertainment system is pretty laughable.

Will Microsoft's Next Xbox Eat Your TV?.
That's funny how the SimCity example is "proof" that people are unhappy about having to be online use this theoretical device, but the 30+ year history of cable TV, where you have consistently needed an "always on" connection to watch shows, is not? Don't most people get their internet from the same cable connection anyway?
I don't see why this would be unexpected to anyone who has followed the reports that viewers are watching more streaming video than games on consoles. Those people are watching via always-on internet connections. It's not unusual at all.
This direction actually seems like a conservative move in reaction to what's happening right now with their 46 million Xbox LIVE subscribers. With the trend towards traditional cable "cord cutting" well underway, they look like the team to beat, while other companies take stabs at catching up.
As far as taking over my TV, I say: "NOOOO! But I WANTED to use 3 confusing remotes to turn on my set, find something to watch, and adjust the volume! Don't take THAT away!!"

Crash Test Victims.
If you've ever been to a city with protected bicycle lanes you would already know it's a win/win for motorists as well as cyclists. Cyclists don't have to worry about excessive risk and in turn they don't have as much temptation to be assholes about asserting their right to use the road. Considering that most motorists *don't* want to ram cyclists, it makes it easier for everyone involved.

Is Microsoft Getting into the News Business?.
MSNBC online was headquartered in Redmond, so it wouldn't be a stretch to expect the spinoff news division to be in that area too. I wouldn't expect any breakthrough in news reporting but any voice that's not controlled by the Big Six media companies is a welcome addition -- especially if the nature of online advertising affords a bit more editorial freedom than broadcast or print.

Public Forum Monday to Discuss Cutting of SCCC Film & Video Program.
I just want to add that there is an enormous video game industry in greater Seattle, one which has an ever-increasing demand for cinematic storytelling skills and timeline-based content creation. I work in this industry and use skills I learned at SCCC F&V every day: storyboarding, motion graphics, shot composition, timeline editing, and more. SCCC has a good reputation with my employer and many of my colleagues have been hired shortly after graduating from one of SCCC's great programs. There is an immediate value to our local economy, this is far more than a charity for "the arts".
