Jan 2 Keith Kyle commented on Wait. What? Mayor Murray Dreams of a Fourth Tunnel. (For Transit.).
I think he may be referring to an idea that is gaining steam in the transit community called the West Side Transit Tunnel. A new tunnel would be needed for Ballard to West Seattle light rail to be built. Seattle could potentially just build the downtown portion as a Rail Convertible Bus Tunnel (like the current bus tunnel.) This would solve a lot of problems on a shorter timeline than getting full rail built and set us up for long term rail expansion.

17, 21, 22. Why don't we just put a tax on unicorns? Or get funding for transit out of wishes? That would make me happier too.

Great article Dominic -- this is an issue which I am constantly shocking people with: Crime is historically low and getting lower in this city. Lets leave the truthiness to the Seattle Times (but I saw someone on drugs downtown!) -- we have objective facts.

Tesla's tech was revolutionary in implementation - the comparison to Apple is well deserved. Before the Tesla Roadster, people had no idea that 1) An electric car could have those specs or 2) and electric car could be that fun. The company expanded on that success and the model S is spectacular. I look forward to gen 3.
This preamble is just to say, if it were anyone but Musk I would write this idea off as bullshit. Since its him, I'm giddy as hell. Seattle to Portland in 15 minutes? What?

McGinn. This election is a referendum on new urbanism. Either we move forward with transit and walkable neighborhoods or we step back into old Seattle hand wringing. The worst outcome would be Steinbrueck.
Apr 22, 2013 Keith Kyle commented on Should the Smoking Age Be Raised to 21?.
The legal age of adulthood should be the same in every potentially dangerous context. Military, drugs (cigarettes, liquor, pot, whatever else), and sex (with anyone regardless of how much older they are.) I think its worth considering moving the age to 21 or to 18 for all of these things -- but having them at different ages is an absurd disconnect.

#21 - I read the times coverage of local transportation religiously because I read all local coverage of transportation issues religiously. Dominic's representation of the Time's slant is dead on. It's a slant that runs deeper than what you could suss out from a quick web search.
Jun 26, 2012 Keith Kyle commented on Feeling Less Safe in Seattle? Consider: Chicago's Homicide Rate Is Up 38 Percent This Year.
Seattle has a low murder rate -- as does NYC and Toronto. Murders per capita in the US have been in a free fall since 1991 - the slight uptick this year may just be us bouncing off the bottom or it might just be random -- its too early and we're dealing with numbers to small to draw any kind of conclusion. If you remove the Cafe Racer tragedy from the stats as an anomoly -- our local "murder crisis" amounts to six additional homocides in a half year period.

I hate to see these businesses being forced to move -- I used to live very close to there and spent a lot of time sitting outside of Bauhaus.
That said -- is there no middle ground? Can we move this developer (and others) to build a 2 story brick base with the taller parts of the building set back? Can we move them to purpose design the corner where Bauhaus sits for an indoor/outdoor coffee house? Its probably impossible to maintain 100% of the character of a place, but making an effort towards compromise rather than entrenched pro/anti opinions would get us a much better outcome.
