On "Bullshit" and "Pansy-Assed".
The truth is, the Bible *does not say* that being gay is wrong--not in the sense that we see "being gay" in our world today. The prohibitions in the Bible against "sodomy" or "laying with a man as with a woman" have to do with practices performed in other Mesopotamian religions, which practiced a form of ritual "prostitution" that included male-male sex as well as male-female sex. Additionally, what many readers of the Bible don't know or understand is that the books of the bible containing these prohibitions were specifically written during, or right after, the Babylonian Exile. The Biblical Jews were fighting to maintain their cultural and ethnic identity through a forced exile to a foreign land...the laws in Deutoronomy were a part of their effort to maintain that identity, to set themselves apart from their oppressors and resist assimilation. So for the Bible to say "don't do this EVER", it was really saying "If you want to remain a Jew, don't do what our oppressors do, EVER".
The bottom line is, the prohibitions in the Bible had nothing at all to do with the kinds of loving, committed relationships between gay and lesbian people that are the subject of debate in today's political arena.
