My life would be duller without you, Charles.

Agree with Yucca Flower also. I wouldn't wish the groping on anyone, and yes it is bound to be emotionally traumatic and psychologically scarring

My first reaction was the same as Dan's, however, and I can't help but think of a friend who was violently raped in an attack that included being carved up with a knife. She required extensive surgery, and was told she could never have children as a result of her injuries.

She was 12.

I don't think that making certain distinctions between horrible things and more horrible things automatically makes one an insensitive brute.

I will also say that my friend is not some walking zombie years after the fact, either, and has had a successful and satisying creative, professional, romantic, and sexual life. I don't know exactly what scars remain (other than the physical), but generally those of us who have survived traumatic and unpleasant events want to triumph over those things and enjoy our quality of life.

I've got some things in my past that were awful, too, and I do have times when I think "gee, I wish I never had to think about this again" but... I prefer to think of myself as a triumphant survivor, and I don't think the whole "life sentence" idea is a healthy construct for a person who wants to progress beyond the traumatic event.

I love this guy. Tell us how it goes, eh?

I'm going to throw in my 2 cents against the sex scandal - given how close she and Todd are (remember, he basically followed her to work half the time, sat in on official meetings, and was cc'd on official emails), it just doesn't ring true, psychologically or logistically.

Sure would be juicy, but the whole financial impropriety / abuse of power thing seems so much more in character for her.

That will stay with me for a long time.

I can only hope that the images of her death, which are rocketing around the world right now, will help bring down this regime.

RIP, young Neda.

I was approached by one of these people in downtown San Francisco a few years ago. I said something mildly disparaging about Larouche (I believe they were running him for President at the time or something), and the young guy instantly flew off the handle and started yelling at me. Not only that, he pursued me down the street for almost a block, continuing to yell at me. Given what an insane spectacle he was making of himself, I didn't feel the need to reply in kind.

He was not aware of the optics of the situation, having come unglued, but he was quite large (and male), and I am quite small (and female), so I can only hope I helped him further tarnish the Larouche brand that day, if such a thing were possible.

1. Whoever questioned the veracity of this story has a VERY good point. The fact that Sullivan felt this was credible enough to post says a lot about his mindset.

2. Assuming this woman actually existed, she sounds like she was mentally ill. So, ABSOLUTELY parent material. Oy vey.

It's like Cary Tennis took over Dan's column.

Powerful post, Erica. You've articulated my own feelings very well.
