Vashon has a very strange political mix. I remember being on the island one summer and Tom Stewart was hosting the Washington State GOP picnic on his massive Misty Isle Farms ranch (with heli-pad!). Across the street, at the Paradise Ridge Park, there was a huge Earth Day celebration. German luxury sedans lined one side of the road, VW buses the other. Vashon has lots of rich people with waterfront mansions and lots of hippies living in the woods.

My mom moved us to Seattle when she divorced my dad. I was 11. She took us out to the OSF as often as she could afford it. It had always been a treat for us when we lived in Spokane, and it gave us a taste of home. While we were waiting for a table, my brother and sister and I would go out to the railroad tracks next to the restaurant and set pennies on the rails. During dinner, a train or two would go by. After dinner, we'd go out and look over the tracks and find our squashed-beyond-recognition pennies - souvenirs of a night out.

They were already taking steps on this. Last year, the cast of Dukes of Hazzard were in a commercial for Autotrader.com and the ad was a long chase with the General Lee and some cop cars. But in the whole commercial, the roof of the car is never shown. https://youtu.be/6syCBrvmJ68

My son was a huge fan of the rebooted animated series that came out in 2003, and I got dvd's of the life action movies for him back then. We were at the movies last week and saw the preview for this new version, and we both hated it. Michael Bay is amazing. He's managed to shit all over both my childhood and my son's. 2 generations!

Took my kids to see the Muppet Movie on Sunday. They loved it, but I loved it more. I'd forgotten how many cameos are in that movie. Richard Pryor, James Coburn, Madeline Kahn, Carol Kane, Milton Berle, Mel Brooks, to name some. Everyone who was really cool and funny in 1979.

I was at Emerald City Comicon a couple years ago, and a guy in an excellent Darth Vader suit walked up behind me. I hadn't thought of Darth Vader as scary since before Return of the Jedi, but seeing him live in person really frightened me.
Sep 24, 2013 Lark Hawk commented on Sammy Hagar: WTF.
His stuff got played on the radio all the time in the early 80's in Spokane. I thought he was a great second tier rocker, but I never thought he was on the level of Van Halen. I loved me some Three Lock Box, VOA, Rise of the Animal, and lots more. I Can't Drive 55 got annoying as hell in 1984. And after he took over vocals for Van Halen, it was like watching Peter McNeeley suddenly think he was a real boxer because he was in the ring with Tyson.
