Sep 30 Lark Hawk commented on Skillet: The Drama Continues.
I haven't had much luck with Skillet. The first time I went there, they ran out of burgers at 12:05, as I was standing in line. The second time I got there earlier so I wouldn't miss out. I actually ordered a burger, but while I was waiting for it to cook, they had a "fire suppression system malfunction," which ruined my burger and closed them down for that day. I never went a third time. I really wonder how these guys stay in business.

Andrew is right. USS Mariner is very nerdy. The only blog I've ever known to combine baseball and math.
Jul 9 Lark Hawk commented on I've Done Dumber Things.
This American Life did a show kind of about this a couple years ago. One of the reporters broke up with a boyfriend, and ended up writing her own break-up song. She talked to Phil Collins for advice, and he told her all about how he came to write that song, how his heart was broken, and how it all ended up making him a mega-star.

Jul 8 Lark Hawk commented on On Cinebarre.
My beef with the Cinebarre: It's 21 and older, which, ok, that's the price you pay for running any kind of bar in Washington state. Still, it caught me off guard since I didn't know the place that replaced the Regal Mountlake 9 had gone adults only. I was taking my kid to an 11:00am matinee of Night in the Museum 2. WTF? Who is going to want to go to that show without kids? You don't have to go to Questionland, the answer is nobody.
Jun 12 Lark Hawk commented on Has Gene Simmons Ever Shut Up About Being Straight?.
I already know Gene Simmons's opinions on straight sex, as articulated in Kiss songs like "Let's Put the X in Sex," "Christine Sixteen," and "Lick it Up." But where does he stand on the issue of American Idol contestants' sexuality?
Jun 12 Lark Hawk commented on Hey, Here's a Totally Pointless Question.
I remember, from reading Bruce Campbell's autobiography, that a couple of the actors in Evil Dead used different names, as they were SAG members and weren't allowed to be paid so little. I thought that might explain things, but a quick google shows that Betsy Baker wasn't one of them.
Jun 8 Lark Hawk commented on The Two Ginsbergs.
I remember seeing Hugh Jackman on an interview show shortly before the first X-Men movie. The interviewer asked him about his musical background and he launched into a song from Pirates of Penzance and I thought there is no way this motherfucker could ever be Wolverine. But he turned out to be perfect.

That's why they are actors, I guess.

Did I read that right - the locker room is in a Home Depot?
May 28 Lark Hawk commented on The Sounders and The Score.
This "fair-weather fan" crap is bullshit. First of all, with a couple of rare exceptions (Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers), all major league sports teams see a decline in attendance when the teams are losing.

Second, in Seattle, that decline is pretty damn small. Look at the Mariners last year, with some of the best attendance in baseball despite one of the worst records in the league. And the Seahawks were mediocre for 15 years and had a multi-year waiting list to buy season tickets. It took an owner who worked very hard to fuck the fans to end that.

Maybe Seattle has an inferiority complex. We've had bad to mediocre teams for so long, we tend not to get too optimistic about the potential for success. But we do support our teams through the bad times.
