commented on Your Dog Sucks
About Seattle Animal Control -- I'm not sure how they do with emergency calls, but I was surprised at how quickly they responded when I sent in a general complaint about dogs running loose in Volunteer Park. The more calls they get about dogs running loose in the parks, the more likely they will be to send patrols and issue citations. And the more enforcement happens, the more likely people are to follow the rules.
To register a complaint with Animal Control, call the Seattle Animal Shelter communications center at 386-7387 (7 days a week, 9AM - 6:30PM) or send an email to Brett.Rogers@seattle.gov.

reviewed High 5 Pie
I love a good fruit pie so was excited to hear that High 5 had opened nearby. But the actual experience was a real let down. The blueberry pie was mostly crust and a mushy crumble topping. The too few blueberries were dry and flavorless. The apple pie had a bit more fruit, but it too was dry and lacking in flavor.
One of the problems with fruit pie -- as compared with cupcakes or ice cream -- is that a good one requires more expensive ingredients. I wouldn't mind paying upwards of $5 for a slice of pie if it was full of juicy blueberries, but that's a lot to pay for a whole bunch of uninteresting crust.

commented on Reading Today: Vegans, Victory, and, um, Comics
Why perpetuate the myth that Flying Apron's baked goods are delicious? As a vegan, I have a vested interest in liking their products, but everything I've ever tried has been frankly awful. FA uses gritty brown rice flour in almost almost all of their cookies, so they always taste like they're mixed with sand. I know it's possible to make good vegan baked goods; I'm sure it's possible to make good gluten-free baked goods if that's your only option -- but vegan and gluten-free? Hard to see the point.

Both shows of Departures are sold out (rush only). So whatever the critics think, people obviously want to see it.
Work recognized the power of Spring Fever and set me free early so I'm going to catch El Dorado at the Harvard Exit. Ahh -- the first weekend of the summer and it's time to snuggle down into a velvet seat and watch movies!
