"Beating Up Bachman": Small-Town Fuckups and Surprisingly Buoyant Optimism.
I saw this the other night with my mom, who is friends with "Mama Trucker.". I'm not usually excited about seeing plays, and I wasn't excited in advance of seeing this one (though I was looking forward to seeing my mom and meeting her friend). But the drama felt real, the acting wasn't too actorly, it wasn't prudish the way many plays seem, the story drew me in...i had mixed feelings about the ending, but overall - good show.

216 Nipples Later.
This artist and the curator bring me back to Mitt Romney's comment about asking to be provided "a binder full of women." Beres' reductive print and the curator's comment about only being able to get 40 (women), in comparison to the number of women that Beres "got"...kind of creeps me out. Someone made a comment about being offended if she hadn't been on the list. So now one guy puts himself in the position of deciding who the legit local female artists are. Sort of puppetmasterlike, no? Creepy AND grandiose.

We Really Showed Paul Allen.
MrBaker has a good point. Instead of all this crying over spilt milk, use the lessons learned where you can accomplish something that's happening in the current decade: the city turning outward to the water. There's more than park in south Lake Union. What do you envision for the big dog, the downtown waterfront, when the viaduct comes down?

SL Letter of the Day: Show This Woman Some Love.
You're not broken, VABG, you're in pain. You're stronger than many - you're making a new version of your birth family, a loving, accepting version. Making a new way is painful, and I applaud you for it.

"Words We Don't Say".
Many will disagree, but the word "create" bugs me (as in, "I will now create a new spreadsheet." Why not just say "make"?) Speaking of "make", I also hugely dislike "make" when it has to do with painting (:She plans to make a painting") and "piece" in connection with clothing.
