I go back to this album frequently, it would definitely be among my favorites of the decade. Not to take away from how good this album is, but if you are just now discovering the Avalanches, I would recommend tracking down the Japanese compilation called 'At Last Alone' that collects most of the remixes and b-sides from the singles around 'Since I Left You'. There are fantastic remixes by Matthew Herbert and DJ Harvey (who, thankfully, corrects the not-really-on-beat loop that kind of throws me off of 'Electricity' when I hear it). Above all else is the 7 minute b-side cut called 'Everyday' which is a necessary summertime / beach house / proto-Balearic burner. I'd link a youtube clip, but the only one that exists has some stupid muddy women playing soccer pictures attached to it (I don't get it?).

@1:
The JT question is funny, but to be real, and it's kind of funny that Charles mentioned him earlier today, it really bothers me that I don't know whether to put Pete Rock under P or R.

Not in a record store, but someone recently told me that KRS-One is on the new Prefuse 73 album and it had gone platinum. O RLY?

I've been feeling bassline recently as well, I'm glad it's getting much better production-wise in the past year and there are a lot of key cuts. That being said, I am not sure if it has the history in the States to break out. I don't think we caught enough of the UK garage movement for it to feel like the music has a reference point.

There is a compilation called 'Supa Dupa' that I've been really feeling as of late. It's physical version is three mixed discs (bassline, grime, UK funky respectively), but the digital version has the full songs used in the mix CDs, making for about 5 hours of pivotal UK music. On top of that, Amazon has it for under $10, so it's a bit of a no-brainer. Loads of T2 and Platnum, a bunch of necessary grime cuts for those who missed it ('Gangsterz' by Wiley - whoa), and great looks at UKF ('Funky Anthem', new cuts by Ill Blu and Lil Silva). Highly recommended for anyone interested in the future of UK club music.

Excellent post - that 'Tap Dance' tune is a crusher!

How do hardcore dudes find the time to make shirts in their busy schedule of telling people what not to eat and giving each other "prison" tattoos?

Here are some secrets about why DJs inexplicably like this song:

1) people know it
2) drunks sing along to it
3) the BPM is around 126, landing it at a good peak time tempo for dance jocks
4) the opening couple bars are both nearly a capella and stay in tempo well, making it an easy target for mixing and for remixes.

I remember hearing the Bmore club edit, in Baltimore, in 2006 or 2007, and HATING it; and of course it is one of the Bmore re-edits that has stood the test of time.

I'm totally naming a song 'Dancestab'. It'll be some next not-so-big shit too.
