As a nation, we can establish our own expectations of privacy.
We can decide through law, for example, that all the meta data related to our digital communication is private between us, the people we're communicating with, and the service that provides the tools of communication.
Entering a hotel is a public act. The length of time I talk with someone while inside, the number of times I talk with them, and which room we talk in should all be considered as private as the conversation itself EVEN if the hotel staff in some way facilitate or become involved in the conversation.
If someone else is collecting that data, I at least expect the hotel staff to let me know.
I'm not willing to give that up in the off chance it might save the lives of a couple thousand theoretical people I'll never theoretically meet.
