Too Beautiful to Litigate.
Now I feel much, much better about the cards dealt to TBTL. The story of their departure from KIRO does seem to further the likelihood that terrestrial radio, especially talk radio, may at some point have to adopt to the tastes of younger generations or go the way of the dinosaur. But I'm confident that Luke, Jen, and Sean will be just fine for years to come.
Thanks for the story, Eli!

What Happened to TBTL?.
KIRO also changed up their hourly format to broadcast the national top-of-the-hour CBS news and interrupts the surviving on-air personalities every 7 minutes for traffic updates. This approach clearly is designed to compete with the all-news-all-the-time KOMO 1000 news format.
Sure, the TBTL podcast remains, thankfully. But I got into TBTL - and KIRO at all - by actually hearing the show by sheer accident on the air on my way home one night in its first week.
Clearly, by shunning TBTL exclusively to the interwebs, KIRO seems to be giving up on attracting younger listenership to its terrestrial broadcast out of fear of losing their predominantly baby-boomer demo. Replacing TBTL with a conservative-leaning talk show host in the 7-10pm slot isn't exactly going to compete with KEXP.

Guess They Were Right.
I suspect TBTL may get picked up on terrestrial ground at some point, perhaps on a station that better caters to their demo (although it seems the under-40 demo increasingly rely upon podcasting over radio, so perhaps it'll help TBTL's online efforts). I wonder if the show could ever work on KEXP or KUOW?! And, if so, which time slots? Food for thought, I suppose...
I do think KIRO made a huge mistake, as TBTL was their attempt to cater to an under-40 crowd (and draw more young listeners to their station).

The Office and The Man.
I completely agree with Chicago Fan that Obama and the Demos need to cowboy up and return the proverbial rhetorical ball back at the right. Obama is caving rather than standing up for his decisions, best evidenced with Van Jones' resignation (over that "asshole" comment directed by Republicans - Cheney did the same fucking thing about Democrats when he was in office) and the apparent incoming concessions in the health care plan.
The pipe dream of true bipartisanship in the Obama Administration is impossible thanks to the right's attack campaign. They clearly don't want to work across the aisle and are merely declaring war for 2010 elections. It's time for the Demos to play some smashmouth offense in this political game.
I so wish Congress was like England's House of Commons, where they yell at each other in a frank yet pragmatic manner and get shit done.

Dizzee Rascal : "Holiday".
Well, musically, it did get awesome with the ramp-up to an electro-house beat that didn't exactly climax right. The visuals still looked like a throwback to a Jodeci video from the 90s, but all in all, a major disappointment here...

It's Not Enough That He's A Nazi Who Wants To Euthanize Old Folks And Turn Everyone Else Into Socialist Zombies.
As bat shit crazy as Palin is, there are way too many in this country who voted for W TWICE that have drank the kool aid and buy this verbal diarrhea hook, line and sinker. I have family members that think Palin's a political genius and buy the socialist BS tag the right are painting on Obama. Palin knows this, which is why she's so restless in her efforts to maintain attention in the media. She's clearly gearing up for a 2012 campaign for the White House - this is only the beginning.

No Doubt Re-Cap.
Great report, Gina - you nailed the realities of getting to and from the venue (having braved the trip to White River myself 3 times, it's unfortunate that not much as changed).
Still, I love concert reviews like this on Line Out - keep 'em coming!

Good News/Bad News.
@ 3 Will: I lived in Utah in 2000 for work & you can only buy beer with no more than up 3.2% alcohol-content in regular grocery stores (you have to go to a state liquor store to get the more potent brew, such as Snowcap or most IPAs).
Additionally, there were pubs that did not require a "private club" membership, but they were limited to serve sub-3.2% beer and no wine nor hard liquor whatsoever. For example, one infamous non "private club" bar about half the size of the Pacific Inn *only* served 89 cent schooners of PBR and deviled eggs. You'd see patrons with *dozens* of schooners lined up in front of them in order to ensure a proper buzz (as much as one can derive a buzz from PBR).
The "private clubs" I patronized did serve the hard stuff, but each bottle had special auto-measuring spouts that basically ensured that you would not get a stiff gin & tonic (*and* you would pay considerably more than normal per drink). Also, when I went to see Murder City Devils at an SLC club, for example, an additional "temporary" membership fee was tacked onto the cover charge (and I had to sign up for said membership as well), unnecessary hoops to jump through just to go see one of my favorite bands.
I sincerely hope the lifting of the "private club" requirement will free some SLC establishments to embrace the freedom to pour away and follow the example of Seattle institutions such as Mecca and Canterbury.
