Local writer Matt Briggs has a blog called "A Boy, a Cat, a Lifeboat" asking authors to contribute their stories to the "open source" story. Seems that Life of Pi was "inspired" by a previous work by Brizilian writer Moacyr Scliar.

So it seems that bestselling author Yann Martel has a little problem coming up with an original idea.

This whole period of artists selling their singles to commercials as just another revenue stream will probably play itself out just like record sales have. In case you haven't noticed, any form of mass entertainment that relies on advertising to pay the bills is currently struggling with that model. And I think the little bump a commercial gets from the presence of a recognizable pop song gets diminished when it becomes a thoroughly unremarkable occurrence.

In the long run watering down the impact of music by allowing it to be used to sell soap does have an effect on its future value. I don't hate musicians for trying to get paid, but I don't think hip music in soap commercials is going to save the rock-star paycheck.

The bands trying to pretend they can write jingles and still have "cred" are pretty funny too.

How do they get away with it? They are a monopoly, that's how. Like the article says "Fuck off, we're the only arena in _____"

Jun 8 flamingbanjo commented on The Death of Auto-Tune?.
I guess I don't see how auto-tune is "just another instrument" in the same sense as a saxophone is. Have you ever tried to play a saxophone? It's fucking hard. It takes months to even get a decent tone out of the thing, years to play anything anybody else would want to hear. Now with autotune, maybe you could skip all that bothersome practicing and just honk away with abandon knowing you could "fix it in the mix" later, but I'm not convinced it would be the same thing.

You might as well say that hiring professional singers to sing your vocal tracks and then taking credit for it is "just another instrument."

I'm pretty sure that six-year olds with brain tumors are the only people who can enjoy Nugent's music.
