Google maps tells me that there's a liquor store across the street from Uncle Ike's,.

The black market has thrived everywhere in the united states forever, and even the most heavy-handed law enforcement has never put any long term dent on it. But Seattle thinks they'll stop this super convenient and easy manifestation of it with an arrest-free bust or two and a press release?

The way to either get rid of those businesses or integrate them into the legal system is to make the legal system convenient and reasonably priced so as to outcompete them. That includes having delivery services, as we have for everything else.

It seems like the only way applying for permits could save a significant amount of money is if some of the protests didn't happen because of permits being denied (wiping out the rights of the protesters)

Glad to see my pick for best humor won. "World's best handjob" had me bent over laughing.

I'm looking for the part of the article where the defending employees say that the suing employees in the lawsuit were either NOT working >40hrs or were being paid their overtime, with proper reporting and taxation. I'm not finding it.

I don't understand this thing where people imagine that somehow feminism has banned men from doing things like opening doors, complimenting, and being protective.

(Most) women still love these things (from the right person, at the right time, and done in the right way) from men who treat them with respect. The only people who imagine that women aren't allowed to have the parts of the traditional male-female dynamic they like unless they're willing to accept the parts they don't like (ie being treated like dirt) seem to be a bunch of out-of-touch pundits.

If Frank Miller is finding that women don't take his unsolicited compliments well, I'm guessing it has more to do with him radiating creepiness when he gives them than any song Rod Stewart sang. I liked the first Dark Knight comic a lot BTW.

@35: The fact that you don't know that, despite how obvious it is to observe in the real world makes me think you're either really dumb, or like 12 years old.

Take the whole thing down. This woman is a real person who probably lives in this town. A decent person would be thinking "maybe her and her friends haven't seen this yet and there's no reason she needs to see this comment thread".

Take it down Kelly O and replace it with a short apology to the subject.

This isn't journalism and umm, it's not exactly like slog has a shortage of silly little fluff pieces to replace it with.
