@5 Back surgery or something involving the abdomen would probably make thrusting motions extremely difficult.

@ansible - Yes, Tracy was trying to get back at Jack for something and donated a ton of money to the orchestra if they would agree to devote an entire performance to the Sanford and Son theme song.

Amen! Finding someone worth rounding up is totally a numbers game, you've got to get out there and meet a bunch of people.

I've never been a parent, but stress and overwork totally zap my libido and that can drag on for a while if I don't get a chance for a real break. Fortunately, it comes roaring back with a vengeance when I do get a couple of days off.

If there are any grandparents handy, you might see if they can take the baby for a weekend so that LW and hubby can go away for a few days. Two days in a hotel no crying baby and a hot tub might be all he needs.

@2 Amen!!!! I'm a very happy only child and married to another very happy only child.

I can imagine a few benefits to having siblings, but honestly, whenever I encounter adults interacting with their siblings I tend to be a little repulsed by it. Really sane, intelligent people revert to being adolescent idiots when their siblings are around. It's really disturbing and the non-only children just don't seem to see it.

Someone who came out of the closet at 27 getting married at 28 is definitely a bad idea.

I'm a 42 year-old chubby gay guy living in a small city. It's really not that hard to find men of all ages interested in casual sex, even 20-somethings. You just have to have a reasonably open attitude and go looking for things in the places you're going to find them. The 20-somethings pay me absolutely no attention in bars, but I get plenty of attention from them on dating apps. As Dan has pointed out many times and in many contexts, there's often a disconnect between what people are really into and what they are willing to acknowledge they are into in front of their friends.

This oversimplifies in some ways. Germany has 14 weeks at full pay, but you can tack a full year onto that at a reduced rate of pay.

@5 - Iowa City is home to the Iowa Writers Workshop, the oldest creative writing MFA in the Unites States. The Iowa workshop consistently ranks #1 for creative writing MFA programs and there's a long and impressive list of writers who've done a stint in the cornfields. It's not a crazy choice for this program.

Numbers up in 2002-2008 would correspond fairly well to the height of the Harry Potter craze. The first movie came out in 2001, which is when LOTS of people really got into the series and had to catch up on the previous books. The 5th book (2003), the sixth book (2005), and the 7th book (2007) set all sorts of sales records. The Harry Potter films were also coming out steadily during those years and each film probably sent a new wave of people off to read the books.
