I don't think that Occupy needs to get violent. @12 nails with with the reasonable goal (peaceful) goal of shutting down trading for a day or so. That would take this to the next level.

And I don't think that carrying guns in public is a good idea, but I'm willing to bet police are less likely to pepper-spray or randomly arrest demonstrators that are known to be well-armed (how often to Teabaggers get pepper-sprayed?)

Its quite unlikely, probabilistically, that we would be rhinoceroses. There's so few of them left.

@7 After the Republicans cheered for death for the uninsured, Ron Paul helpfully suggested that churches would pay for health care for the uninsured. With any luck, we could make the churches go bankrupt, too!

@4 - I fully understand the concept of "death spiral." I think that only after private insurance companies go bankrupt will we actually see meaningful health care reform (i.e. single payer).

I think that the law would be great without the individual mandate. Since insurance companies can't discriminate against pre-existing conditions, people would only need to buy insurance when they get sick. It would suck for private insurance companies, but would be great for people.

Am I missing something here?

Hate to break it to ya, but the US isn't very good at wars these days (see Iraq, Afghanistan). We'd probably just end up dumping a bunch of money into Halliburton and Blackwater.

It seems to me that there is a Santorum framing problem.

Rick Santorum argues that Frothy Mix Santorum is his Google problem, because people Googling Rick Santorum get Frothy Mix Santorum instead.

But Frothy Mix Santorum is actually MORE POPULAR than Rick Santorum, based at least on Google's algorithm. Seems more likely, then, that someone would be Googling in search of Frothy Mix and would accidentally encounter Rick instead Googling Rick only to find Frothy Mix.

If anything, it appears that Frothy Mix Santorum has a Rick Santorum Google Problem.

Are you kidding that's a terrible way to protest? Glitter takes forever to go away completely. Too bad he didn't get a more direct hit to Newt's hair. Getting glittered sucks.

1) It's not "justice" if he doesn't stand trial. It's not "war" if it's against a person, not a country (here, Pakistan). Probably the killing of OBL is best described as illegal revenge.

2) In this case, illegal revenge = meh.

Doesn't matter what we think. The images will be released because we live in a crass and vicious nation. Probably the issue for the government right now is how to control the release. How do you do something like that while retaining even a touch of class? Arrange a leak and then seem mad about it?
