Oh I should note that the appeal of the Pono (what there is anyway) is not the ability to play high bit rate music - lossless encoded wav/aiff's is pretty much fine (though a bit higher resolution than Redbook would be preferred IMO. DAT was 48.1/16bit for instance) - but the high quality components. Just having a true lineout is an excellent feature for anyone who wants to plug into a decent (or higher) quality stereo. Sure there are other ways to do that (cheap computer w/ USB interface pretty much fills the bill) but a small, portable unit with good quality components certainly has it's value. Still as I said above there is some dramatic interface improvements needed.

I think that in this age of novelty in the craft brewery world that the CDA is the most successful and genuinely new style. But the definition, as I understand it, is that I uses roasted malts (like a stout) but otherwise follows the typical grain bill and hop schedule as an IPA. The Standard CDA is really good, though just slightly too stong IMO. Pikes Octopus Ink is very good and currently available. Deschutes Hop in the Dark (seasonal and currently not available) is very solid. Harmon down in Tacoma has made a very respectible CDA, the first one I can recall really digging. But the beat CDA IMO is from Oakshire, the O'Dark 30 (seasonal available in spring iirc).

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is second tier Dick for sure - only Blade Runner has elevated it's stature. That being said their is so much more going on in the novel that it is hard to call Blade Runner an adaptation. BR is a better story though as DADDIES while dealing with more complex ideas is just too undercooked. For PKDs work on his theme of 'what does it mean to be human' there are a lot better books.

Meh baring the fine folks fm Rifftrax giving us a 90s treat with Total Recall is rather reread the PKD short story.

As far as PKD on film gos so far only A Scanner Darkly succeeds as a faithful adaptation and while I love the film, I'd still rather read the book.

I was a Kickstarter backer so I have one (albeit a bit late as they somehow screwed up he initial black units). So it sounds great for sure, though I haven't really a/b tested it or anything. But man the interface blows and is super clunky. I'm used to iOS (which fiwiw has no problems playing lossless or uncompressed audio) and it is so, so inelegant compared to it. The OS X audio app is incredably bad and if the interface is similar I imagine the Windows versions as well. It's just a really poor user experience. I mean anyone who complained about iTunes (and that includes myself for sure) would sell their soul to have an iTunes interface to Pono. Thankfully it mounts as a USB device and you can drag files to it - the preferred method of file transfer for sure. But it's only USB 2.0 and uncompressed or lossless high bit rate files really demand a 3.0 interface. Hopefully the next iteration of the device will solve those problems, but I just don't know if the company could support a Jony Ive quality designer which the UI could really use.

Inherent Vice while easily the best P.T.A. film and a great adaptation is definitely not better than the novel.

Also worth noting that Clarks 2001 was a novelization of the film (and definitely inferior). 2010 was certainly a lot better than the movie.

No country for Old Men is better then the novel which has his "get off my lawn" vibe.

Tidelands is also superior in that the author is unable to evoke the vast, desolate Midwest landscapes where the camera easily does.

Silence of the Lambs also rises above the workmanlike prose.

Drink it now before the inevitable quality decline.
