@41 I'm not sure if I understand you correctly when you say that marriage is, "born out of a misogynistic and oppressively heteronormative tradition." Just because something was originated as a tool of oppression and ownership doesn't mean that it can't be transformed, over centuries and with new laws, into an institution that gives legal rights to two people who love each other, regardless of their gender or power relationships between them. In this regard, I wonder if the far left and the right are eerily similar when they consider the word "marriage," seeing the history instead of the tangible benefits that it confers in this day and age. Moreover, in some states and countries, you can have a gay marriage, but nowhere in the United States are the legal strictures in place that bound a woman to a husband who could legally beat, rape, imprison, and impoverish her. Marriage has changed, and, as Dan Savage is fond of saying, the straights were the ones who changed it.

@31 and @36, you are both being a little bit ridiculous. If Dan Savage criticizes some of the claims of the FA movement, then he's anti-fat. But if he writes some encouraging to an overweight woman being bullied by her boyfriend, then he is transparently covering up his anti-fat agenda. Either way, he can't win. Confirmation bias much?

The "a few bad apples" defense takes on ironic dimensions when you consider the rest of the proverb. A few bad apples corrupt the rest because they were kept in with the good, and the rot spreads. Just as there were undoubtedly more priests who knew that there were predators in their midst, but were reluctant to go forward, not mentioning the church higher-ups who condoned child abuse or state-sponsored kidnapping. If you enable child abuse or this horrible affair, then you are an accessory to the crime, and can't honestly be called "good." If there were once a few bad apples, they have spoiled the rest, and made it such that laypeople cannot fully trust the Catholic Church even in it's own affairs.
Seriously, how does this cross-brandishing Spanish Ob/Gyn sleep at night?

@Jeaksua, since the Senator and the other Republican presidential candidates did not, allow me to deeply thank your husband for his service to our country! And thank you for supporting him, here and elsewhere.

I dunno, I was taught to cook by a man with no sense of taste and smell, and that turned out well.

This is just more proof that the people with the most exciting sex lives are the ones who rarely if ever talk about them. I'm suspicious of the Ross Douthat types who jaw on and on about how emotionally and physically satisfying monogamy is in their marriage and how enlightened their sex lives are. And Christianist types love talking about sex, just think of poor Gail Haggard bragging (pre-meth and hookers) about how awesome the sex was with Ted. Ew. All talk, no action.

On the contrary, people who have tons of filthy, fulfilling orgasms don't talk about it as much, as talking is way more boring than doing. The quietest, more boring married couple you know could likely be fisting everybody in the tri-state area, and playing scrabble and cooking stir-fry just to recover.

All I can think is, LW's boyfriend really screwed the pooch. He has a GGG girlfriend who will peg him, and would be cool with him seeing shemales on the side as well. And yet, he lied to her about it at the time, and may well be lying now, when he must realize that honesty will get a greater reprieve than more lies. The "hot detail" part concerns me in that regard, too.

But seriously, where is he going to find another girl like her? He should be grateful that she's even reconsidering dumping him, and on his best behavior to get her back, including wooing and honesty.

"Mr Grant said the girl suffered serious injuries, including burns to 50 per cent of her body. She will be permanently scarred and faces limited employment options and an inability to ever drive.
She struggles to bring her hand to her mouth and cannot eat, sit or stand without help. Her mother has had to quit work to care for her.
The girl spent almost 12 months in hospital, one of which was in an induced coma."

He's a monster.
Jun 21, 2011 tvontheradioisokiguess commented on Bristol Palin: Levi Raped Me.
I think the fact that Bristol never even used the r-word to describe the night in the tent is a masterful move on her part. I have no doubt in my mind that one or more Palin family lawyer combed over that passage to make sure it was as scandalous as possible without legal ramifications. Whether or not it was rape, if she actually said, "Levi raped me," then Levi would have recourse to sue her for slander or to otherwise prove that it wasn't legally rape. Describing a date rape scenario without using the words gives her more leeway, reframing a possible legal matter to a social one. People on the internet could try to push her to press charges on him, which would expose the sham if it is a sham, but she could "take the high road" and leave us all wondering whether it really happened like she said it did.

It's a shame, too, that poor Trig is one day going to read about his father raping his mother, whether or not it was his conception. If it's true, then this is a sad, sad matter for that kid, one that I wish he would not be exposed to. If it's not true (which I think is more likely) than Bristol is trying to destroy her child's relationships with his father, and Levi's reputation as a human being. How like her mother.
