These kind of groups get a lot of notoriety but eventually burn themselves out because they're fringe groups and don't speak to the majority of the people in the community. And, like most Christians who are incredibly pushy about their beliefs, they have something hidden in their closet (so to speak). That doesn't mean people shouldn't speak out about them, but I wouldn't be too worried about them taking over Amarillo.

@2 I totally agree. Strangely, when you look around the world at places that the U.S. has destroyed and help to rebuild (Iraq, Japan) as well as some former U.S. territories (Marshall Islands), they always set up a Parliament (or similar system). I'd love to also see a system where the President has to stand in front of members of Congress such and answer questions such as in Britain.
