What She Said: Digby on Viagra.
The VA covers Viagra. In fact, my Dr. suggested it when I hinted that I was "throatclear" challenged. I agree with Digby. Less Viagra=less wood=less unwanted pregnancy, (esp by old fucks like me). therefore less need for abortion. Win-Win.
PS. I like cock but I think the logic still works.

Why DADT Looms So Large.
Hey @4, the House has introduced the exact legislation that you are talking about. It's called HR-1283, it has 177 co-sponsors. I wonder how you know that pressure from the President wouldn't help this piece of legislation move out of committee? He is the Commander-in-Chief. It is HIS military. If he truly wants it I think he should be applying pressure, at the least. Perhaps he is and we don't know that. I'm a gay VET and I think Dan's tone on this is about right. True, Pelosi and Reid are spineless on this and they need pressure, however, the President does have the authority to enforce the "don't pursue" portion of the current policy and it's clear by the discharge statistics that this isn't happening.

The President's Plate.
Right the fuck on! Gay Sub vet here. My rep in the house is the ONLY republican co-sponsor of HR-1283. She has more balls than Reid and Obama and more guts than Pelosi on this. Murphy D in PA is the lead on this now. Let him know you support repeal of DADT, and bonus, he is smokin' hot.

Cleaning the Comet's Sidewalk.
Thank you Seattle for this one. I lived in the city back in the early 90's and threw up in and around the Comet many times. You may have dirty sidewalks but at least you have your wit. I have rain up to my ass here in Florida and I'd take your precious banter and crazy summer over Floridian dullards any day.

Ending DADT: Yes He Can.
I am a gay submarine vet (SSN-663). I can't speak for everyone of course but I guess that most gay men and lesbians share the same experience that I did. I was 17 when I entered the NAVY, long before I had come to terms with my sexuality. I don't think my experience is unique in that regard. I came out very privately while in the service and led a double life of lies and secrecy. Now I suppose I could have done the "honorable" thing as @20 so nicely suggested and outed myself, but I liked my job and had great pride in serving and I wanted to stay. So I lied as long as I could stomach it then I finally got out. I would have stayed if I could have served openly. End of my sob story. I guess what I'm trying to impart is that it IS a voluntary Armed Service. Those men and women are there because they want to serve their country and it is the duty of the civilians to protect their rights. It's true, some may be there because it was the only option but not all, I can assure you. They should be allowed to do so. This is a civil rights issue, not just a military issue. And as so it affects ALL of us. When the military needed troops for IRAQ they were happy to suspend DADT discharges to maintain troop levels. Now that there is a drawdown, the DADT discharges are back on the rise. 265 on Obama's watch. According to all polling data, the military and the people are ready. It is time for the Administration and Congress to catch up. Obama has the power to issue a stop-loss on gay investigations and discharges while the poilcy is under review. He needs to do it now. I gather on this blog there is not a lot of support for military issues, I respect that. However, There should be a common support for civil rights, even for military members. And by the way 20, after the NAVY I went to Purdue and then to Law school. Thanks.

You've Got To Fight....
Amen Bonefish. Thank you
As a gay submarine vet (SSN-663) I find the inaction on DADT reprehensible. My Congressperson is a Republican and she is a co-sponser on HR 1283 (legislation to repeal DADT.) Obama can suspend discharges now. Where is he on this? I am sick and tired of hearing wait... wait. Yes Clinton fucked this up years ago but it is not the same political climate. The country and the Armed Forces are ready for this. Obama needs to push Congress. It is
HIS military that is losing on this. Each discharge is the end of someone's professional career and the end of benefits. Get it. This is not an issue, it is about someones life, not to mention a huge $$$ loss for the military. His silence is inexcusable. 265 discharges under Obama's watch and counting. No more GAYTM until there is ACTION.
