"America’s largest and most influential labor union."

Can we please stop repeating factual errors Mr. Blumgart!?
Strike one right here: http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archive…

Trust me, I get the SEIU love; some of my best friends were and are SEIU organizers. And yeah, Stern is tight with Obama, the union has been influential throughout the healthcare debate, and I concede that they are the fastest growing union of the last decade. But please, you do your reportage disservice when such a simple, picayune error gets printed and perpetuated.

Don't get me wrong, Jake. I'm a big fan of your writing, and labor issues should be getting more column inches. Or blog pixels... or whatevs.

"SEIU is the largest union in the country (reports vary from 1.9 to 2.2 million members)"

This is incorrect.

The answer is the NEA at 2,753,129.

@3, If you are referring to the atrocities perpetrated by the soviets, you are not accurately framing a discussion of Marxism. The russians put entirely too much faith in a half-baked political system based on a philosophy that is critical by its nature, not prescriptive. In concordance with their excess of faith in the dialectic, they failed to understand the power of post-industrial/monopolistic capitalism. If the Soviets had been true Marxists, they would have seen the futility of their project in the face of the efficient marketplace.

"the real losers are the advertisers" Hmmm. I really never thought I would have read those words in'The Stranger'

I sincerely hope they were typed with tongue firmly in cheek, otherwise I'd suggest that you may need to insert your foot into your mouth, and/or remove your head from your rear.

And to sloggers: boycott The Stranger!!!

Not to be a party-pooper (I'm still leaning towards voting for the bag tax), but I've talked to a few good liberals who remind me that the bag tax is an ENORMOUSLY regressive tax, and will, above all else, succeed in nickel and diming Seattle's working familes. Just sayin'... maybe a total ban would really be the best policy position to support.
