Having just been there, I agree that the food is rather tasty, (and they can actually make collards properly, which is awesome) but good lord, why do they (and why does the author enjoy) leave the head/all the shell on the shrimp? Especially in the case of the shrimp and grits where they are covered in sauce. Its just so unnecessarily obnoxious and messy.

From The Irrational Season
By Madeleine L'Engle

" But ultimately there comes a moment when a decision must be made. Ultimately two people who love each other must ask themselves how much they hope for as their love grows and deepens, and how much risk they are willing to take. It is indeed a fearful gamble. Because it is the nature of love to create, a marriage itself is something which has to be created, so that, together we become a new creature.

To marry is the biggest risk in human relations that a person can take.If we commit ourselves to one person for life this is not, as many people think, a rejection of freedom; rather it demands the courage to move into all the risks of freedom, and the risk of love which is permanent; into that love which is not possession, but participation. It takes a lifetime to learn another person. When love is not possession, but participation, then it is part of that co-creation which is our human calling, and which implies such risk that it is often rejected."

@13 Yea, you can't beat that version. (Emma Thompson, Keanu Reeves, Denzel Washington, What-his-face from House and Dead Poets not being able to act his way out of a paper bag.....its far too amazing.)

This one looks possibly watchable though.

@29 You have your wish. Stand-up guys stars Walken, Alan Arkin and Al Pacino (and is pretty damn good.) Sounds like it'll get wide release in January. (I saw it at a film festival last weekend.)

Damn it! I meant to say "on their own." Stupid tiredness and anger at having ever spent time reading anything by Don DeLillo.

Cosmopolis was an absolutely god awful novel. I assume turning it into a movie could only improve it as it would at least make the dialog clearer. (In the novel, everyone speaks in exactly the same, stilted way, making it really hard to tell who says what.) However I think nothing could save it from being narcissistic bullshit.

I'm sorry, but depression, destruction, and alienation on there own do not actually make for great literature.

I prefer my refuting the stupid "I wouldn't be here if my mom had had an abortion" with (the very true for me) "I wouldn't be here if my Dad's first wife hadn't had an abortion."

Not worst (in my opinion) but best is Robert Rankin's "Sprout Mask Replica" while listening to Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica.

7: If you think that "based on real people" in the context of a Hollywood film means more than "have the same name and maybe do some of the same things," I have a bridge I want to sell you.

According to this: http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2011… only at most 4,000....though that assumes shes not also trying to cut access to preventative things like pap smears....
