commented on Savage Love Letter of the Day: Daddy Issues
Honey, please don't make dating an older man sound like a terrible affliction. Just date people you want to date, that you are attracted to and don't worry about what other people think. It's pointless. I'm 52. Trust me on this one. I've been out of the closet for 36 years.
I've fairly recently discovered the power of the word "Daddy." It's amazing and I love it and so do the younger men I play with.
Finally, maybe it's time to move out of the small town you grew up in and move to a big city. More Daddies to choose from.

I'm with #2. Anyone who brings up this much anxiety needs to be told why they are not invited. Mother or not. Don't feel guilt about this. It's pointless. If Mother won't get the help that she needs and she's driving wedges in the various couples in the family, why does anyone put up with this? Savage says all the time (mostly to gay folks)..."the only leverage you have over your parents is your presence in their lives." If their presence in your life is this poisonous, then don't let her be present in your life. Period. End of discussion. And tell her why.
commented on The Green Party Responds to Dan Savage, Says He's "Dead Wrong"
If the Greens were serious they would have more than 100 elected officials (some of them in quite minor roles) in more than two states. By their own count, their success has been pretty thin on the ground. Savage is right. They don't play a very good electoral game. The most prominent of their elected officials is a Mayor in a town of 20,000 people in California.
When they have elected officials in 30 states and legislators in 5 or 10 of them, then they can call themselves a serious party. Until then, they're little more than a blip on the screen.
commented on Savage Love Letter of the Day: Bonus Advice From Esther Perel for "Heartbroken And Devastated"
This whole thing sounds like a wife discovering that her long time husband is gay and has been cheating on her with men for years. Her use of the term "closet" made me think that.
Very few couples weather that shitstorm. I ache for this guy.
And #3, while I understand what you're saying, she has to speak in generalities having never met either of the people in question. You can't psychoanalyze someone you haven't seen in person.
