Oh fun! It's like the new going to Africa to be a missionary for the young, hip, and urban set!

I have a few friends who own their houses and rent out rooms. This is probably nowhere near on their radar. Will they have to register their rooms for rent?

For me and many of my friends, renting rooms in houses were an easy and affordable first way to rent, not having any prior rental history after college. I'd really hate to see that option go away.

Or heck, can they implement some kind of fee the developers could pay towards transit improvement that is slightly less than the cost of putting in a parking garage? A per-unit fee of some sort? It makes sense to me to make the developers pay some of the cost of the transit their development is relying on. Letting them off scott-free gives me the grumps.

@13 Exactly what I was thinking. This feels a little cart before the horse considering all the doom and gloom and threats of major service cuts to Metro that seem to come with every single budget cycle. Maybe this makes a little more sense around the light rail corridors, but over here in the Ballard area, it makes me nervous. Improve funding for Metro and somehow better guarantee that budget, or hell, get behind some kind of actual rapid transit and see it to completion (both north-south AND east-west corridors; the 48 and 44 are HARDLY rapid transit). Then implement these kinds of exemptions.

I'm with 9 & 10. There's a lot of blame on the woman here, but isn't part of being GGG BOTH partners being attentive to each other's sexual desires and needs? I mean, expecting him to give up his fantasies, is yes, absolutely ridiculous, and if she can't accept that, then yes they need to break the hell up. However, I don't see why it's unreasonable to ask that there be some people who are off-limits, and that sometimes, he indulges HER fantasies, those him-and-her only fantasies. It sounds like she's done plenty of work indulging his.

Dan, Thank you so much for this project. I grew up in a pretty backwater place. I'm straight, but it was the kind of place where anyone different is suspect. I got out, but I had a good friend who didn't go away for college. He came out during our senior year of high school. The following fall, while I was starting college, I got the call from a friend that that he had killed himself.

I really really really wish someone had been able to convince him that it does get better. I can't tell you how wonderful I think this project is. I really hope it helps.

Also I'm with the other commenters. I love the Stranger, but have always thought its coverage of geek/nerd culture was pretty lacking, considering this is a town that was built on Boeing engineers and Microsoft millionaires. It's a serious nerd town, not that you all would know, since y'all probably don't get out of Capitol Hill much. You've got how many music columnists but can't manage to keep a steady one going for the geeks? Please hire more geeks.

Oh you were talking about The Landing. That is most definitely NOT downtown Renton. You should go to the real downtown Renton, it's pretty quirky. Go when the farmer's market is going.

Have you been to Renton lately? I mean real downtown Renton, not the car sales area along Rainier/Grady? Your comment suggests you haven't. My aunt lives there, and they've been doing some amazing transformation around their old downtown, concentrated around the bus transfer center which is right next to the old downtown, and near the river. Shiny new dense condos, new shops and restaurants, a new space for their very nice farmer's market...

It's pretty darn impressive in my opinion.

As a Seattleite exiled on the east coast for the holidays, I can tell you it was no Snowpocalypse. It was fluffy (not icy) snow like they get out here, and in most places outside of side streets it was cleared within 24 hours of the snow stopping.
