May 9 roddy commented on No Taxation Without Representation: NYC May Soon Give Lawful Noncitizen Residents the Vote.
Josh Marshall thinks this is, on the whole, a bad idea. Citizenship should mean something, distinct from residency or taxing status. Otherwise, what's the point of it? http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/20…
Apr 26 roddy commented on Subarea Equity: A Stupid Policy Is a Stupid Policy Is a Stupid Policy.
@28 "Seattle will vote for basically any transit package" is wrong on many levels.

First, the monorail proves that even Seattle voters have a pain point when it comes to transit. Second, although it may well be easy to get a majority in Seattle, a transit package would have to have overwhelming support from Seattle to bring a measure over the top in the greater Seattle area.
Apr 3 roddy commented on State Senate Republicans Release Budget Proposal, Shit Hits Fan.
This budget was written by 16 senators. It will need 25 votes to pass. So far it only represents the will of 16 out of 49 senators, less than 33% by my calculations. No one, at this point at least, will be held accountable for this proposal until it passes the Senate, if it can even to that. This is a budget that increases money to education by cutting teacher pay. It boosts money to higher ed while cutting total revenue to colleges and universities. It's like paying for roof repair by selling the shingles.

Apr 2 roddy commented on Seahawks Say They Are Fine With Player's Anti-Gay Comments (Updated).
The Seahawks management can live in their "team spirit" bubble, but Vulcan, their owner, has to transact in the real world. Vulcan has been a great community partner for civil rights, but the Seahawks are reinforcing a hostile work environment for their LGBT employees and (potentially) players and Vulcan shouldn't stand for it.

Coming out gay but committing to never express your sexuality is like coming out as a carnivore but committing never to eat meat.
Feb 12 roddy commented on As Expected, King County Council Names Rod Dembowski to Fill Vacant Seat.
Goldy, if you are "just sayin'," you should also note that Ferguson ran well to the right of his first opponent on a platform of shrinking the council size, which benefited Republicans, and opposition to Sound Transit's light rail. Dembowski may have been appointed, as any successor to Ferguson would be, but that doesn't make him non-progressive, as, for instance, Ferguson was. Just sayin'.
Feb 1 roddy commented on Because the One Thing That Won't Get the 787 Flying Again Are Engineers.
It was Boeing's fucked up labor relations that drove the decision to outsource the 787 to every corner of the globe. Boeing needs to make a choice: repair its relations with its workforce, invest in skilled, creative, problem solvers and build better products or continue to be yet another defense contractor relying on the fucked up defense procurement system for its survival. Basically old Boeing vs. McDonnell Douglas. Smart money is on McDonnell Douglas, I'm afraid.
Feb 1 roddy commented on Rob McKenna Is the Quisp of Washington Politics (Except for the Fact that Quisp Won).
When was Wyman's support "open"? If memory serves she made all kinds of noise about how she wouldn't take a stand on "Social" issues. That said, people knew. So they gave her the benefit of the doubt that they couldn't give McKenna.
Jan 29 roddy commented on Yeah, I'm Sure All Those Millionaires in Congress Are Quaking at That "No Budget, No Pay" Provision.
Oh and it violates that Constitution thingy:

"No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened." -- 27th Amendment.

You'd think those House Republicans would have remembered this part because it would have been the last thing they read when the read out the Constitution on the House floor.

Actually there is a single English word for walking along the water: beachcombing.
