Seattle could do this too(allow non citizen residents to vote in citywide elections) but I believe it would require the state legislature to amend the state constitution with some kind of a Home Rule allowance. Any lawyers out there that can shed more light on this?

And the sad thing is most of the dickheads trying to block these carbon efficient deveopments probably think of themselves as good environmentalists.

So incredibly refreshing to hear someone speaking who realizes the tradeoffs involved in urban living. The nimby's bitching about change are just plain selfish. If we want a city eith affordable housing and lower per capita carbon emissions, we need more of all housing types, and soon.
Mar 26 Dedalus commented on Low-Paid Sea-Tac Airport Contract Workers Form Union, Demand Negotiations.
Wow, the knuckle-draggers are out in force here this morning. @3, "why don't they just get a different job" is completely non-sensical. Many of these Menzies and DAL Global workers do move on to other jobs, but then the positions they vacate are filled by others, and the problem of underpay at that position remains.
Mar 25 Dedalus commented on Governors Inslee & Kitzhaber Ask Feds to Examine "True Costs" of Coal Export Terminals.
Would love to see inslee and kitz collaborate like this a lot going forward. They are of similar minds on a lot of issues and could present a solid, unified "cascadian front".

The carnage of the automobile continues. I believe the costs of "accidents" like this should be included in all road and vehicle infrastructure projects. Because they aren't, the costs of autocentric projects are artificially deflated, relative to public transit.
My heart goes out to these victims snd their families.

Sad as it is, the form of death she chose(swimming out into the river, being swept out to sea in the middle of a hurricane) does have a strange and haunting beauty to it. She deserves some props for artistry.
Jul 23, 2012 Dedalus commented on Inslee, for the First Time, Leads McKenna.
I also think a LOT of progressives were scared to death of the poll #'s a month or two ago showing McKenna leading in King County. Perhaps this was enough to spark an early rush to rally the troops that is now registering in the polls.
Let's just hope these new #'s don't breed complacency on the part of progressives. McKenna, awful as he is, is still the GOP's best shot at the state house in decades. This race will be insanely close.

John Talton and Danny Westneat are the only reasons to read the Seattle Times.
