Seattleblues@96, when you say, "I prefer trusting what I know to the knowledge of unknown strangers whose motives are obscure to me", how is that different from relying on studies that collect data?

Questioning your integrity, or the soundness of your opinions, doesn't make me feel better. If anything I remain curious as to how you've reached your conclusions, and why you're unwilling to say anything more about your sources than that they're "unknown strangers".

If I may ask, though, do using sarcasm and insults make you feel better?

Seattleblues, you say, "Calling someone a liar repeatedly doesn't make it so."

Calling homosexuality "a denial of every function of human sexuality" doesn't make it so either. Calling Dan Savage's son "unfortunate" doesn't make him unfortunate, and denying that that's an insult doesn't make it any less of an unnecessary remark. So too, for that matter, is calling Dan Savage "a thing" who, in your opinion, is attempting "destruction of my country from within", although kudos to you for adding that you "respect" his right to do so.

You may believe those you disagree with are cherry-picking the data, and you may even be right in some cases, but you don't present any data of your own. As I've said, you simply state your opinions as though they were facts. I've even presented some examples. Can you do the same?

@85 Seattleblues, you shouldn't go around calling someone else a "faux academic" when you make things up and pretend they're true.

Tell me, you claim to enjoy engaging in debates. Do you ever really do that or do you always do what you do here, which is make broad statements you think are true and dismiss anyone who disagrees with you regardless of the facts?

Seattleblues, you said @107, "Biologically, homosexuality is a denial of every function of human sexuality."

You forgot to preface this with "In my opinion...".

I notice you ignore requests to cite facts and instead consistently treat your opinions as though they were facts. You can deny that your religion is the basis for your prejudice all you want but your unwillingness to back up what you believe with evidence makes it quite clear that your opinions are faith-based.

Seattleblues@52: "In my view the advocates of your point of view have framed things incorrectly and risk our social structure." (Emphasis mine.)

You should have stopped here since this is the basis for all your arguments: that your view, whatever it may be, trumps all facts. You go on to make some broad statements citing nothing but your opinion and then claim that you "listed the corrosive social effects, and not just from homosexuality but from liberal social beliefs generally".

Seattleblues, learn to distinguish fact from opinion. If you're going to list "corrosive social effects" cite some actual examples and some data to back up your claims. You've been caught lying too many times for "Take my word for it" to be a valid argument.

In a similar vein (and referencing Yatta, among other things) is "French Erotic Film". Not to be missed--although it's neither French nor erotic.

I had a very long debate with a friend of mine over what language the singer in this is speaking. I believe the language is Dutch (and have evidence to back this up), but he still believes it's heavily accented English.

@130

You're missing the real point. Why, in every debate, do you feel compelled to bring up your house in Italy or your boat? You seem to be using your material possessions--paltry as you claim they are--to back up your own claims of moral and intellectual superiority. You make broad claims about liberals and how they're corrupting society, but you fail to come up with facts to back up these claims. And previously, when the questions have gotten too tough, you've announced that there's no point in continuing the debate and that you were running off to your house in Italy.

Some of the very people you claim hate America are the ones who stick around and try to make this country better.
Apr 12, 2011 Southern Gentleman commented on Re: Counting Queers.
Liberals are the ones who constantly say that the majority of their fellow citizens are stupid, ill educated, brainwashed and so on.

This from someone who regularly comes here to tell people how stupid they are. This may surprise you, Seattleblues, but your financial superiority does not equal either intellectual or moral superiority. You and your hero Berlusconi seem to have that delusion in common.

Before you go accusing others of the very sins you're guilty of, why not try a little honesty? Maybe you should spend a little less time sitting in your villa feeling smug about how much better you are than most other people and a little more time looking at the facts.

I never attacked the unfortunate young man adopted by Savage and his boyfriend. Not once. Never. I don't know anything about him except that two men adopted him through no fault of his own. Nor except very rarely in passing have I mentioned Savages boyfriend.

Seattleblues, read what you yourself have written. Maybe you don't think repeatedly calling Dan and Terry's son "unfortunate" is an attack, but you have no evidence to back up your belief that he's "unfortunate".

Is there nothing in your faith that says it's wrong to bear false witness?

@14 No, a rabbi, a priest, and a minister walked into the bar. The bartender said, "Is this a joke?"
