What Does Ed Murray Have Against Rail in Seattle?.
I don't see how anyone with half an understanding of regional transit issues or politics could think that removing subarea equity will mean MORE money being spent in Seattle. Are the suburbs who out vote us just going to give us their money out of the goodness of their hearts? When has this EVER happened in our area? I have yet to see Murray or any of his sock puppets on here make an attempt to explain that leap.

McGinn Brings Out His Base as He Launches Bid for Reelection.
Posted this in the comments to Dom's piece, but works here as well.
McGinn definitely started off stumbling, but he has grown into the role.
I think a big issue is going to be how well The Powers That Be can keep the complete and utter fiasco that is the deep bore tunnel under wraps.
Who in the media is talking about how pretty much everything the Mayor said would happen: tolling will be SIGNIFICANTLY less than expected, already slashed from $400 million to $200 million; diversion rates are SIGNIFICANTLY higher, the legislature doesn't look to be in the mood to take Seattle off the hook (see our friends over in Bellevue putting 'retain cost overruns provision' in the legislative agenda for their delegation)...
Is the big money powerful enough, does the Seattle Times hate him enough that they squash all this until after the election?

What Is Wrong with the City Council? They're Cowards When It Comes to Rail Planning..
It's not cowardice so much as it their placing the good of the city below their desire to replace McGinn.
Certain members have basically adopted the strategy of the Congressional Republican. But instead of doing anything (or nothing) to ensure the President doesn't get a political win ( even if it means the country suffers) they are doing everything they can to make sure the Mayor doesn't get a win (even if the city suffers for it).

Council Approves Rail Planning to Ballard.
@2, Seattle Subway had eight people show up on a weekday morning to urge the Transportation Committee to lift the proviso. Centran had none. Seattle Subway is actually doing the groundwork and outreach necessary to get real high quality transit to all our neighborhoods whereas Centran hasn't done anything but put out a press release a few months ago.
Sorry, but the monorail is dead.
