south downtown @33 - the reason these measures aren't bigger has generally been because of polling, not capacity. Capacity is a good excuse now that we're getting closer, but nobody has proposed a huge preschool measure.

@27 I left messages with Murray's office before we filed the measure - I've reached out repeatedly. I only got a call back this afternoon, after two weeks. I'm happy to work with them if they continue to reach out.

rshoff @12 - there's a non-supplantation requirement in the measure to prevent Metro from getting any of this money if they use it to cut other Seattle service. We already buy 45,000 service hours a year in the same way our initiative proposes, and they haven't done what you fear, either! :)

I filed this measure. We're not poo-pooing on anyone - we're setting up the politics so that we give our urban legislators power to get sustainable transit funding and help the suburbs as well. The prop 1 vote just took away that message from them, and we have to give it back.

@50, that's why we couldn't talk about it until Prop 1 lost - it was a risk to think there was a backup plan. Please go to www.friendsoftransit.us/volunteer and sign up!

Thanks everyone for your support. This is the most progressive revenue option that anyone has - much better than a car tab *plus* sales tax. If you want to help, or just have questions, feel free to email me - bensch@gmail.com

Unfortunately, I think funding affordable housing in this way largely results in reducing market rate affordability - and creating an increase in need for affordable housing - at a higher rate than the housing it supplies can satisfy.

@9 oh my god, really? The city doesn't set what tax sources it can use, the state grants them to us. There is no way to point at the city for that.
