commented on Today in Burying the Lede: Underage Liquor Sales
How much was stolen from state liquor stores vs how much from safeway? How much of that was by underage drinkers? If liquor was so easy to steal when I was a young punk in Jersey lo those many years ago we would have robbed them blind.

Idaho is the place to go for me. coeur d'alene liquor stores are good and will order what they don't carry.
Having said that, I shop at several local places depending upon what I need. My every day whiskey is Powers. Decent prices at Fred Meyer. Still about $10+ more for a fifth than in Idaho. I buy my vodka (costco euro-style that is nearly indistinguishable from Grey Goose to my not terribly discerning when it comes to vodka palate), mid grade scotch (JW Black) and shit scotch (Dewars) at Costco. Jamesons as well. They are also a bit cheaper with the liqueurs they carry but selection limited.
Safeway is the easiest place to flat out steal the stuff unless you want padron or some other top shelf liquor. Decent prices but nothing to brag about and it's all relative. BevMo has got it together but they rub me wrong. the Central does have a good selection of boutique brands.
Selection is suffering. all around except at Bevmo.

...or maybe he's just a small stressed business owner 5 years into a shitty economy who picked this thing (rightly or wrongly) to vent on. Yeah, he seems like an ass and perhaps deserves a bit of something or other coming he way but you veer into self congratulatory hyperbole and a bit of self righteousness. That you were grabbed and held against your will is inexcusable and man many kudos to you for not pressing the matter. But cut the dude a husk over the broader issue as well and try to understand that doing business in belltown can be especially frustrating. I work with angry businesses in the belltown downtown pioneer square (and the rest of the city) regularly. Get past the initial freak out, let them vent and go from there. He didn't you a chance and that's on him but don't be too quick to judge.
I love your stuff btw.

Racist and provincial compared to where? I've lived in NYC, Phoenix, Boston, etc and know Chicago, New Orleans, DC, LA etc pretty well. All of these cities are far more racist and every one them except for the Manhattan part of NYC can also give Seattle's provincialism a run for its money. The only thing I've found to be unique about Seattle's racism is this is the first place I've ever run into some pretty nasty shit directed against Native Americans, though that seems more regional than specific to Seattle.
