Yeah, it's a copy of that.

Before anyone complains, I reread my comment and want to change "mental weakness" to "soft spot or touchy subject".

The husband isn't mentally weak because of his daughter, but it is a subject that will make him defensive and/or emotional. Showing that defensiveness is what will spur people who have been trained to fight to focus on the area they perceive will do the most damage.

I'm going to have to agree with @10 to some extent. Those soldiers (men and women) are put together, broken down, and rebuilt. This has several beneficial effects, but one effect that is less than optimal is the teasing. The platoon will become almost like a family, and no one will yank the chain of someone harder than a brother will to a brother. Soldiers look for these mental weaknesses and focus on it exclusively.

If you want to not get teased mercilessly in the military, never complain about anything that hurts your feelings. The first time you say your feelings are hurt by ANYTHING, that is the first thing someone will latch on to and they will exploit it as extremely as possible.

I guarantee that if the offending soldier had said he had a thing for women with red hair, and the husband said, "STFU, my sister has red hair," you could replace the comments about his daughter with comments about how he would rape his sister.

It's odd. It's uncalled for. It's highly offensive, even in the context. But, it's pretty much par for the course. I wouldn't recommend necessarily reporting it if it was a one-time thing. Ignore it, ignore the offender, ignore future comments. Report it only if it keeps going on, escalates, and the husband begins doubting the support of his fellow soldiers because of the teasing.

No DTMFA, just set the guy straight. Nick Swardson has a bit about his nephew going on and on about his Pokemon cards that this lady can take a lesson from.

She needs to pull her husband into the bathroom and start going on and on about all of her make-up. Ridiculous detail after detail, with comparisons of color to wardrobe. Even if she's not particularly into this type of thing, she needs to fake it and be ready to fake it for 2-4 hours non-stop. When he finally asks if it is necessary because he's lost or uninterested, she should answer no, and that that's how she feels when he goes on about work and computers.

I'd suggest though that they find a hobby or two together so that they have some common ground.

@16 It's a matter of civil liberties, which applies to everyone in the U.S., regardless of whether it is Seattle or South Texas. They deserve a club because every other club was allowed on campus until the non-heterosexual students requested a club. The principal and administration stone-walled for over 3 months and now they decided to punish everybody instead of allow the club. Sound familiar? No one can own guns because criminals use them. Everybody has to have full-body scans because terrorists strap bombs to themselves. Can you see the line that is being crossed? I'm glad you're so normal that all of the persecution of "non-normal" folks doesn't bother or invade on your rights, but it doesn't make the intrusion any less real for those suffering.

I think the situation has gotten worse. I believe the school has stopped accepting e-mail from outside its own domain. They appear to be doing the same thing that happened to Contance McMillen; they are trying to turn the entire student body against the club. ALL extra-curricular clubs have now been banned from campus. I was reading this and seriously thought Dan was going to say, "The middle ad is mine." Then I remembered Dan was only 11 or 12 in 1984.

There are no kinky engineers huh? I recall many students wearing a shirt with "Electrical Engineers Do It With Less Resistance" on the front and back during my college days.

Dan, why did you only look for numbers in the NW? Unless you have a really, really horrible contract, your mobile phone should be able to call anywhere in the U.S. (and probably Canada) for no additional long distance charge. Why didn't you call every number you found in there?

@ 52

In Texas, we have no income tax, and everyone pays a sales tax. Illegals, residents, and tourists contribute to Texas' tax base.

Dan, don't be so sure about Dems getting the Hispanic vote for the next 4 generations because the DREAM act didn't pass. I grew up in South Texas, and one thing I noticed was that Hispanics that are legally in the U.S. look down upon illegal Hispanic immigrants much more harshly than anyone else.

I've never been able to give an orgasm with a stare, but I had one girlfriend that I could get super-horny just by talking into her ear at close range. I'd sneak up behind her and put my arms around her waist, then tell her something sexy directly into her ear. She's moan, get goose-bumps, and then it was straight to the bedroom because she was ready to go.

I think if I could do it with a stare I'd be thiefing myself of a lot of participational fun.
