Ok, so I have the sense of humour of an eight year old... I'll cop to it.
But when I clicked the link the shortned version on the tab read "Weiner Faces Mounting Leg.."
*giggle*

What I find most annoying about the "have we disturbed your events?" line is ummm YES! Many Pride events have had anti-gay protesters from Newt's line of "Christian" and "Family Friendly" groups. So yes, yes you have and you've done a hell of a lot worse than sprinke some friendly sparkles (or were you not watching the coverage of Matthew Sheppard's funeral?). Asshole.

I think the one "consolation" in all of this bat-shit-craziness is that they were just as bat-shit-crazy about divorced parents, and single or unmarried parents. But within 50 years (really, less) we're seeing them just fine (well, OK at least) with single, divorced, or remarried parents as long as it's not "hte gays".

As my Granny used to say "this too shall pass". And we'll keep beating down doors until it does.

We had almost exactly the same issue just outside of Toronto with a catholic school board. Marc Hall, the student in that case, eventually won based on the fact that the school recieves public funds and must therefore follow anti-discrimination laws.

Could a similar argement be made here?

Hey Dan - Thanks for pointing out that the US doesn't have exclusivity on assholes in politics. We've got LOTS... There's a current scandal over the fact that our minister of immigration, Jason Kenney, excluded any mention of LBGT rights from the study guide for new immigrants. Kenney's been at it for a while too, my personal favorite being in 2005 when members of the anti-same-sex-marriage movement bought the rights to the domain www.donboudia.ca (Don Boudia is a Liberal MP) and pointed it to an anti-SSM site. Kenney raced to their defense saying that is was Boudia's fault for not already reserving the domain.

Our own shit-disturbing journalist Rick Mercer (bless him!!) checked into it and guess who else had neglected to register all his domains? So Mercer bought it and pointed www.jasonkenney.org to the website for Egale Canada, our national LBGT advocacy group. I'm pretty sure Jason's head exploded. :) For good giggle here’s Mercer’s blog account of the whole thing: http://rickmercer.blogspot.com/2005/06/j….

I think proroguing Parliament should be an euphemism for someone holding out on you “The first couple of dates have been great, but he’s still proroguing Parliament.”

It really is a shame that this issue has dissolved (here and other place, this isn't a slag on Slog) to YAY Life or YAY Abortion. I believe that the vast majority of us "choicers" believe exactly that, that we should have the choice when faced with potentially devastating circumstances. But we're painted by the opposition as killin'-happy executioners.

I don't think you'll find many, if any, pro-choice advocates who think that abortion is a reasonable birth-control choice. It's a last-ditch, worst case solution, and I think that any woman who's made that choice would agree. And to be fair we probably paint all the pro-lifers with a fascist 1984-esqe brush.

But really at the end of the day for most of us it all boils down to a very simple principal laid down by the great Theodore Sturgeon:
"I'll live by your rules in your house, and you can live by your rules in my house; but I'll be damned before I live by your rules in my house"

Sorry kids, my house, my rules.
