Good lord, please don't give people legal advice based on television shows.

If he still has the pics, the statute of limitations for possession hasn't expired yet. Source: I'm a lawyer.

Oh, sweetie. It's great you're trying to respect his different comfort level around sex, but please stay the fuck away from any guy who makes you feel like he's "willing" to date you in spite of a sexual history he doesn't like. You sound like an awesome kid and you deserve (and can find) sweet and kind lovers who will respect you, your past, and your needs.

And: as someone you was a shit at 16, I'm sorry on your boyfriend's behalf. Getting compassionately dumped by such an awesome young woman might do wonders for your bf's character.

I can't believe Charles is the one with the rep for weird, lazy, smug arguments when Goldy posts shit like this.

" Which do you want? Cheap commodities or safe factories? Cheap commodities or fair wages? Which? You must chose one or the other."

There's no reason to believe this is true. Production labor costs are a tiny fraction of the price of sweatshop clothes. We can keep clothes pretty cheap while paying fairer wages and providing a safer work environment. This won't fix capitalism--we're still talking about low-wage jobs in poor countries--but we could make a real dent in the danger and poverty that sweatshop workers suffer without breaking the bank.

CABAR is full of shit. The Penal Code prohibits the destruction of any material which "is about to be produced in evidence upon any trial, inquiry, or investigation." There is no investigation and no trial and the child porn isn't "about to be produced." The fact that it might hypothetically some day be the subject of an inquiry on the off chance someone finds out about it doesn't put it within the scope of the statute.

The statute likewise requires that the destruction occur "with intent thereby to prevent it from being produced." Meaning: if she is deleting the kiddie porn because she (a) finds it abhorrent, or (b) doesn't want to participate in a crime by hanging on to child porn, she isn't committing a crime--the statute only applies if she is deleting it to prevent it from wind up in evidence.

And for the record: I am an attorney. I have no earthly idea why any attorney would contort a statute to encourage someone not to delete child porn, but the insanity of the suggestion--don't delete the child porn!--speaks for itself.

Running on the road in the dark with no lights is an idiot move. But a friendly reminder: if you are driving in such a way that you might well fail to see, and then hit and kill, an idiot, you need to slow down until you can see an adequate distance in front of you. I'm glad you missed this guy. I'm not always the picture of road safety, either, but trust me, either one of us would feel like shit if we can someone over. Even an idiot.

"so, the next time some parent lets their teenage kid load up the family SUV with their friends and then takes a turn too sharp and kills everyone inside, shall we blame the car?"

Yes. You can also blame the parents and the state for letting teenagers drive, which is a fucktacular idea. And you can even blame the teenager for driving like a teenager. But is it really such a bad idea to point out that dangerous shit is dangerous?
